President Donald Trump and Republicans are celebrating the Texas legislature’s recent passage of congressional maps that could net Republicans five congressional seats.
The Daily Caller reports that the Texas Senate passed the new congressional maps on Saturday.
This came after lots of kicking and screaming from state Democrats, who infamously fled the state in order to block the initial bill.

It’s official
Breitbart News reports that Texas lawmakers passed the new map early Saturday morning. It was not without drama.
Per the outlet:
The Texas Senate voted 18-11 to pass the Senate bill authorizing a new mid-census congressional redistricting map. The vote took place at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, following more than eight hours of debate. Senator Alvarado announced plans to filibuster the bill and continue the debate well into Saturday. Her plans were cut short when the Senate Republican Caucus discovered Alvarado planned to use the filibuster as a fund-raising gimmick.
The outlet goes on to explain how the new map creates five new districts that are expected to go Republican.
This, of course, could be a big help in the 2026 midterm elections, where Republicans will be trying to defend their narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Democratic states, such as California, are trying to push back with their own maps.
Trump and Abbott celebrate
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and President Trump both celebrated the passage of the new maps.
Abbott, in his statement, wrote:
The One Big Beautiful Map has passed the Senate. Despite Democrats’ petty stunts, we delivered on our promise. This map reflects Texans’ actual voting preferences, and I look forward to signing it into law.
Abbott, in a separate message, suggested that more of the same is to come.
Trump released his own statement on the passage of the bill.
He wrote:
Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! Everything Passed, on our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself. Texas never lets us down. Florida, Indiana, and others are looking to do the same thing. More seats equals less Crime, a great Economy, and a STRONG SECOND AMENDMENT. It means Happiness and Peace. But Republicans, there is one thing even better – STOP MAIL-IN VOTING, a total fraud that has no bounds. Also, go to PAPER BALLOTS before it is too late – At one tenth the cost, faster, and more reliable. If we do these TWO things, we will pick up 100 more seats, and the CROOKED game of politics is over. God Bless America!!!
