President Donald Trump is not only negotiating peace around the world, but he’s also cleaning up his own backyard.
His desire to clean up the crime-ridden streets of Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States of America, is more than just talk. After deploying the National Guard to patrol, he is now announcing his intent to ask Congress for $2 billion to fund his efforts, according to Roll Call.
“Look, D.C. is a miracle,” Trump said while speaking to reporters on Friday. “You live here. Have you been mugged? Okay, D.C. was a hellhole, and now it’s safe.”
Watch:
JUST IN: President Trump is now seeking around $2 billion from Congress to beautify and restore Washington DC.
He’s doing it. He’s making our nation’s capital a shining city on a hill.

“Now it’s going to be clean. I’m giving out a contract very soon. … We’re going to be raising about $2 billion from Congress. Congress is happy to do it. And we’re going to wisely spend the money we’re doing with Clark Construction.”
“We’re going to head out right from the Capitol in the White House, and if you look at a circle and go about three miles out. It’s going to be beautiful,” he continued. “I hate to say this, because it doesn’t sound very good, but there have been no murders in D.C. in the last week. That’s the first time in anybody’s memory that you haven’t had a murder in a week.”
He also called on D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to look after the city once he gets it back in shape.
“And I think the mayor has to get on the ball, because we have a situation — and she’s a nice woman, but I’ll tell you what she’s got to get on the ball. We have, I don’t want to see phony numbers,” he warned. “And, then, we put some strength, some strength into it, got the numbers down a little bit, but we brought in the D.C. National Guard, and we coupled them with the police. And it has been amazing.”
It is unclear if the call for $2 billion will be supported by the fiscally conservative Republicans in Congress, who could argue that spending such a large amount of money without any promise of reimbursement would not be in the best interest of the nation.
