There’s nothing quite like Burning Man. What began as a summer solstice party at San Francisco’s Baker Beach in 1986 has transformed into a 70,000-person bacchanal of art, music and culture in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
Far from a traditional festival, Burning Man essentially builds a city up from nothing, with attendees being encouraged to give back to the community by way of creating artful experiences that range from wholesome to very NSFW. The events are chronicled in a massive listing on the Burning Man website that compiles hundreds of wacky options for Burners to indulge in.
While the playa sun is rising, tons of camps will be cooking up breakfast offerings, all free of charge, as nothing on the playa is allowed to be sold (except ice). Naughty-shaped waffles from camp Moon Landing are a risque way to start the day, or a breakfast cereal bar at Center Camp Plaza.
If you like your morning meal with a side of disco, the Discotique Pancake Boutique has you covered (and has an open bar to boot). Or if you’re a fan of yogurt, Camp Desert of Eden is offering a “parfait” way to start your day. Curious to try some Ukrainian food? Camp Misto is serving up syrnyky, “golden, fluffy cheese balls with sour cream.” And if you’re still coming down from the previous night, Rise N’ Rave is a way to keep the party going with some coffee and chill house music (or if you’d prefer, “Eye of the Tiger” is another wakeup music option).
