Ghislaine Maxwell’s explosive nine-hour interview with the Department of Justice has been released, shedding new light on her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein while revealing few new details about high-profile individuals linked to the disgraced financier.
Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for recruiting underage girls for Epstein’s abuse, provided insight into the transactional nature of her longtime partnership with Epstein, including a revelation that he paid her roughly $250,000 a year as late as 2008 or 2009, until he went to jail.
Despite her extensive testimony, Maxwell did not provide incriminating information on well-known figures such as President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Prince Andrew, or Elon Musk.
“I never, ever saw any man doing something inappropriate with a woman of any age,” Maxwell insisted.
Of Trump, she said, “The president was never inappropriate with anybody. In the times I was with him, he was a gentleman in all respects.”
Maxwell also denied the existence of a so-called “client list” and insisted Clinton never visited Epstein’s infamous Caribbean island, per Daily Mail.
Maxwell recounted that her romantic and sexual relationship with Epstein effectively ended in 1999, though their transactional ties persisted. She said she realized their relationship was truly over after the September 11 attacks when Epstein, despite being nearby, refused to spend time with her.
“If he wouldn’t see me at all on 9/11, he was never going to be there,” she said. Maxwell described their arrangement as subservient on her part and acknowledged Epstein’s sexual limitations due to a heart condition, which suited her because of her own medical issues.
Financial matters were also discussed in the interviews. Maxwell disputed that the more than $30 million Epstein sent her was purely for personal gain, pointing to investments in real estate flips in Palm Beach and profits from day-trading in the 1990s.
She noted she even held banking licenses, demonstrating her involvement in intricate financial dealings beyond her work with Epstein.
Maxwell addressed allegations from the late Virginia Giuffre regarding Prince Andrew, denying that she facilitated a relationship between Giuffre and the royal. She dismissed claims of sexual activity in her home as “rubbish” and noted that she was out of town at the time.
She also challenged assertions that young women in Epstein’s orbit were present solely for sexual purposes, claiming they were there because they were “invigorating” and inspired him creatively.
While Maxwell’s testimony touches on Epstein’s associates, she largely avoided providing new criminal revelations.
Attorneys for Epstein’s victims described the release as “probably about the best we could get,” noting that Maxwell’s recall of financial and social details is strong, though she becomes vague on the most controversial topics. Her answers, they said, are likely shaped by her ongoing appeals and potential pursuit of a reduced sentence or pardon.
Maxwell also weighed in on Epstein’s death, stating she does not believe he killed himself and suggesting the possibility of murder by another inmate, though she said she has no specific knowledge of the responsible party.
The release of the interview transcripts coincides with thousands of pages of related DOJ documents handed over to Congress.
While the documents reveal some previously unknown financial and personal details about Epstein and Maxwell’s connection, no new legal consequences for other prominent figures were disclosed. Maxwell continues to serve her sentence while appealing her 2021 conviction on sex trafficking charges.
