In a surprise Oval Office announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the 2026 World Cup draw will take place on Dec. 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Multiple reports last month stated that the event would be held in Las Vegas, but with FIFA president Gianni Infantino alongside him, Trump announced that the draw would instead be in the nation’s capital.
“On Dec. 5 of this year, the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw will take place at the Kennedy Center,” Trump said.
“Some people refer to it as the Trump Kennedy Center, but we’re not prepared to do that quite yet, maybe in a week or so.”
Trump has been increasingly active in the soccer sphere since taking office for the second time in January, with Infantino often right by his side.
