Who knows how much Kamala Harris may make off her actual book sales once her “107 Days” book is actually released.
What is for certain is that the book TOUR is going to rake in some serious cash. Yesterday, Kamala Harris announced on X that she was heading out on a book tour entitled “A Conversation With Kamala Harris” to select cities.
107 Days is my candid and personal account of the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.
Over the next few months, I will travel our country to share behind-the-scenes moments, lessons learned, and how we keep moving forward together.
I’ll see you out there. pic.twitter.com/OyixggMEPA

While I have no idea what this “conversation” is going to entail, the Harris book team is very cleverly arranging this tour in select locations across the country where there are enough Democrat true believers who would be willing to come – or putting them in VERY deep blue areas – for a single day. This makes the event a “one time only” hot ticket item, and means that venues can engage in some pretty premium pricing – some of which will undoubtedly make it back into Kamala’s pocket. For example, I looked up the Portland, Oregon date in November. Tickets went on sale this morning for the entire book tour, and the venue is nearly sold out, according to the website. A few single tickets remain – for $95 each. And who knows how many VIP tickets that involve a “meet and greet” with the former vice president were sold at that location?
Kamala Harris is also making a stop in Birmingham, Alabama, which will undoubtedly be a draw for many southern Democrats. Taking a look at the ticketing for that event makes it apparent that a ticket in Portland is quite a steal. The cheapest ticket currently available in Birmingham is a resale ticket costing at least $163, and the “dress circle” level of the theatre has seats available for $954 (though seats on the floor and balcony are still running just under $200). Also, the website tells ticket buyers that every ticket comes with a copy of the book. That means the theatre, in conjunction with the publisher and select bookstores (the Alabama event is being put on “in partnership with Books-A-Million”), is making a large pre-order of the book in order to have their copies on hand, which will definitely inflate sales. Every single event, from Toronto (yes, she’s making a stop in Canada), to Houston, to Nashville all say that a book is included with the ticket and partners with a bookstore to provide it. (The London event – yes, she’s making a trip to the UK to promote her book – is the only one not selling tickets, because a venue has not yet been announced.) So while people are definitely going to be showing up to listen to Kamala Harris, these are the same people who would have bought her book – and now they are bypassing buying a copy separately because their book will now come with their ticket.
Is this a solid marketing strategy for Kamala Harris? At the very least, it makes for guaranteed book sales that will ensure the book becomes a “bestseller” on day one because of all the preorders required for these venues. There’s nothing wrong or underhanded with that, but it won’t be a sustainable sales strategy. She got a $20 million advance to write this book, and she has to be making a healthy cut from all these appearances.
But what exactly is Kamala going to be saying at these “conversations”? Is she going to be reading excerpts of her book? Is she going to be taking questions from the audience? Will she spill any tea on Joe Biden (and did she say anything about Biden in her book that his inner circle will explode over)? The true believers are the ones buying tickets to these events, but she’s got to have more substance to bring in more buyers. And substance is the one thing that voters found Kamala Harris to be lacking – in spades.
We all know that Kamala Harris will do softball media interviews to promote the book. But will she do harder ones?
As much as we would all LOVE to see her go on Megyn Kelly, or any other slightly-less-than-fawning outlet to give an interview, we have now come around again to the central problem of Kamala. She cannot think on her feet, and she was so afraid of being exposed during the campaign that she actively avoided outlets that she could not control. And that control, be it implicit or complicit, cost her – and others – A LOT.
So this book tour satisfies both Kamala’s desire for attention and her need for control. She sits on a stage and laughs, gets the applause, and racks up the bucks with ticket sales and probably some merchandise offerings as well. But continuing success in sales will depend on what the book actually says. If the book is boring and places blame on vague entities like “the establishment” or “the voters,” or even Trump himself, then it won’t do well. If the book dishes actual dirt and points fingers at actual people, then she’s going to have a better chance at sustaining sales.
However, there is one central thing that this book and the book tour will tell us, and that is if Kamala Harris still thinks she has a political future. If the answer is no, then the book will burn some bridges. If the answer is yes, then the book will be bland and vague and whiny and inoffensive to the base. And if the book is a snoozefest, then the tour is all about pumping up the sales before it ends up in bargain bins, and keeping Kamala Harris in the national spotlight to prep for another presidential run.
