BRONX, NY – In a troubling incident that underscores the ongoing issue of gun violence, four teenagers were shot in the Parkchester section of the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. The shooting took place around 4 p.m., leaving the community shaken and authorities scrambling for answers.
The scene unfolded near Chapman Avenue and Saint Peters Avenue, a typically quiet residential area peppered with apartment buildings and schools. Police are actively investigating, gathering evidence, and searching for the perpetrator.
Eyewitnesses reported an altercation among a group of young people shortly before the shots rang out. The proximity to the Lewis and Clark School on Overing Street has heightened concerns among local residents about safety in the neighborhood.
The victims, identified as teenagers ranging from 13 to 15 years old, suffered various injuries. A 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were both shot in the left leg, while a 14-year-old boy sustained a graze to his right foot. A 15-year-old boy was grazed in both legs. Fortunately, all were transported to Jacobi Medical Center and are listed in stable condition.
Authorities are on the lookout for a gray vehicle that reportedly fled the scene following the shooting. Additionally, several young individuals were seen running from the area as the gunfire erupted.
A local resident, who was outside at the time, recounted hearing four to five shots. She had rushed to retrieve her child from daycare, anxious about their safety. The woman expressed frustration over the recurring violence, noting that similar incidents have occurred in recent weeks.
The police have intensified their efforts to piece together the sequence of events leading to the shooting. The community’s growing concern over the frequency of gun-related altercations, particularly involving young people, has prompted calls for increased safety measures.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on identifying the shooter and preventing further violence.
