FBI Raids John Bolton’s Home and the Irony Is Delicious

In the early morning hours today, the FBI raided John Bolton’s Bethesda home. Around seven o’clock, agents and local police sealed the street and started searching the former National Security Adviser’s house. Bolton is now at the center of a national security probe that looks a lot like something we have seen before.

Yes, the same FBI that stormed Mar-a-Lago back in 2022 has now raided one of Trump’s biggest critics. If you hear laughter in the background, that is just karma having herself a good day.

What We Know

Agents carried out the raid as part of an ongoing investigation into whether Bolton kept classified material. This is not the first time his handling of sensitive information has been in question. His 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, caused a storm inside the Justice Department over claims that it revealed classified content. That case was eventually dropped, but it left Bolton with a reputation for playing fast and loose with secrets.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) in 2020 launched an investigation of Bolton for possibly leaking classified information in his memoir, titled “The Room Where It Happened.”

The book made several dubious claims, including allegations that President Trump asked for help with his election from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

And here is a new wrinkle. When Trump returned to the White House in January, he stripped Bolton of his security clearance. He even pulled back Bolton’s Secret Service detail, which had been in place due to an Iranian assassination threat. Trump made it clear that Bolton was no longer trusted with classified access. Fast forward to today, and the FBI is searching Bolton’s home for sensitive material he was not supposed to have in the first place.

Federal agents went to Bolton’s house in Bethesda, Md., from 7 a.m. in an investigation ordered by FBI Director Kash Patel, a Trump administration official told The Post.

“NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission,” he said in a cryptic post to X shortly after the raid began.

The probe — which is said to involve classified documents — was first launched years ago, but the Biden administration shut it down “for political reasons,” according to a senior US official.

Bolton’s X account blasted out a message at 7:32 a.m. criticizing Trump’s approach to Russia’s war on Ukraine as FBI agents were inside his home. It was unclear whether it was a scheduled post. – New York Post

The Mar-a-Lago Flashback

How could anyone forget the Mar-a-Lago raid in August of 2022? Dozens of agents swarmed Trump’s Florida estate. They left with boxes of material, some of it stamped top secret. The media treated it like the crime of the century. The raid was covered around the clock and used to paint Trump as reckless and unfit.

Trump never stopped being Trump. He claimed he had a standing order to declassify material and dismissed the raid as political theater. Whether you agreed with him or not, the point is that the country was dragged through endless coverage of the Mar-a-Lago raid. Today, the same script is being read but with Bolton in the starring role.

Why This Matters

Bolton is not just any former official. He built an entire second career by criticizing Trump at every turn. He called him undisciplined, ignorant of global affairs, and incapable of protecting national security. The media loved having him on as the Republican who hated Trump.

While we have free speech in America, that does not mean you are shielded from consequences. Bolton can write books, give interviews, and sling criticism all day long. What he cannot do is hold himself up as a paragon of national security while possibly breaking the very rules he accused Trump of ignoring.

Now the FBI is treating Bolton with the same suspicion it used on Trump. The irony could not be sharper. Bolton positioned himself as the adult in the room. Today, he looks like just another Washington insider who might have kept classified papers where they did not belong. And unlike Joe Biden, who got a pass from the DOJ because of his “age and memory issues,” Bolton does not have that excuse in his back pocket. If he broke the law, he can and should be prosecuted.

Pay Attention to What The Media Will Say

The media will try to sell this as some kind of tit for tat story. Trump got raided, now Bolton got raided, so look how balanced and fair the system is. Do not fall for it. The Mar-a-Lago raid was political from the start, designed to damage Trump. Bolton’s raid will be treated as a minor hiccup. The press will never admit the double standard, but anyone paying attention can see it.

This is not about whether Bolton is guilty or innocent. That will play out in time. What matters right now is that the man who wrote a book cashing in on his insider knowledge of Trump is facing his own raid. He tried to make himself the moral authority on classified material. Today, that authority has been revoked by the FBI at his own front door.

The Workings of Washington

So pour yourself a coffee and enjoy the symmetry. When Mar-a-Lago was raided, the pundits screamed that it was a defense of democracy. Now that Bolton’s home has been raided, watch the same people spin it as something minor. Or abuse of power. That is how Washington works.

But for the rest of us, it is perfectly clear. The FBI raid on John Bolton’s home proves that the classified document circus is not over. It is just playing a new act. And it is deliciously ironic that one of Trump’s loudest critics is now wearing the same target.

This may not end up being a blockbuster story. It could fizzle out as a minor headline, but the raid itself still raises questions that cannot be ignored.
