CANOGA PARK, CA – A woman was attacked in a dramatic incident outside the bustling Westfield Topanga Mall on Friday afternoon. Authorities reported that the victim was initially targeted with gunfire, which missed, before being stabbed in the shoulder by her assailant.
The incident unfolded just outside the Cheesecake Factory parking lot, where the Los Angeles Police Department swiftly established a perimeter. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the attacker attempted to shoot the woman multiple times before resorting to a knife.
The suspect, who fled the scene in a black Mercedes, was apprehended shortly after near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Irwin Street. His vehicle was found running, and a rifle was recovered at the scene.
Police investigations suggest that the violent encounter stemmed from a custody dispute between the suspect and the victim. Fortunately, the woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Inside the Cheesecake Factory, patrons were startled as the woman, accompanied by a small child, rushed in seeking help. Diners and staff alike were momentarily frozen by the sudden turn of events.
Despite the initial disruption, business operations at the popular shopping center have since returned to normal. The community remains on edge as they process the unsettling events of the day.
The LAPD urges anyone with further information about the incident to come forward as investigations continue.
