Texas state Rep. Nicole Collier abruptly bailed on a conference call with California Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democrats after she was advised that she was potentially committing a felony by participating while in a Capitol restroom.
On Wednesday, the Ft. Worth Democrat holed up in the lady’s room while debate over a redistricting bill was taking place on the floor, huddling with Newsom, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and others meddling in the Lone Star State’s effort to undo the efforts of Democrats to put a thumb on the scale with their race-based gerrymandering.
Collier said that the redistricting legislation was in violation of the federal Voting Rights Act, claiming that it “will prevent black and brown individuals from selecting the candidates of their choice because they’re cracking and packing these districts.”
Around 30 minutes into the call, as Martin was speaking, the Jasmine Crockett wannabe interrupted to inform the others that she was dropping off because she might be in violation of the law. “Sorry, I have to leave. They said it’s a felony for me to do this,” Collier said.

@SenBooker: “That is outrageous and first of all let me tell you something: Rep. Collier in the bathroom has more dignity than Donald Trump in the Oval Office.” pic.twitter.com/nkDaihXgvH— CSPAN (@cspan) August 20, 2025
“Apparently, I can’t be on the floor or in the bathroom,” she said, turning to a person who was off camera.
“You told me I was only allowed to be here in the bathroom,” she told the individual before returning to her call, “No, hang on. Bye everybody. I’ve got to go.”
Collier’s departure triggered her fellow Democrats, who fumed over having their scheming interrupted.
“That is outrageous,” exclaimed the emotionally volatile Booker. “Let me tell you something, Rep. Collier in the bathroom has more dignity than Donald Trump in the Oval Office.”
“There you go,” said the California governor, who is leading an effort to gerrymander Republicans out of elected representation in his state as a response to the Texas redistricting.
“What they’re trying to do right there is silence an American leader, silence a black woman, and that is outrageous,” raved Booker, who has likened himself to the gladiator Spartacus. “What we just witnessed, them trying to shut her down and saying it’s illegal for her to be in the bathroom and on this call, this is the lengths that they’re going to in Texas.”
Previously a nobody, Collier has become one of her party’s newest stars in only a few short days after her performative stunt of sleeping on the floor of the Texas statehouse earlier this week, sharing a picture of herself in her slumber “bonnet” on X.

The left-wing lawmaker was chasing social media clout by playing the victim after she refused to accept a Republican-mandated state trooper escort to keep an eye on Democrats in case they got the idea to flee the state rather than do their jobs again.
Collier and her fellow fugitives’ efforts ultimately failed as the Texas House approved the new maps, which have the backing of President Donald J. Trump.
