A pro-life group filed a complaint to the D.C. Board of Medicine over Dr. Cesare Santangelo, who continues to perform late-term abortions despite having obvious and severe physical handicaps.
According to a press release from the pro-life organization, The Survivors, Santangelo — who has a history of malpractice — is reliant on a cane and a caregiver.
Kristin Turner, the regional organizer for The Survivors DC, said she was shocked by his condition when she saw him step out of his car in front of his facility, on his way to perform high-risk, late-term abortions.
“He was dazed, confused, and he couldn’t walk without help from his cane and caretaker, his right arm was in a full cast, and clinic staff met him at the door with a wheelchair,” she said, according to the release. “I’ve encountered him several times in the last 3 years and this was the worst condition I’ve seen him in yet.”
The complaint from The Survivors calls for an immediate suspension of his license, citing his malpractice history, eyewitness testimony, and the newly released video footage.
Pro-life group LiveAction performed undercover investigations at Santangelo’s facility in 2013 that uncovered that the staff performed partial-birth abortions, according to CNN.
In 2022, the remains of five babies were recovered from Santangelo’s facility, as CatholicVote previously reported. The DC Metropolitan Police refused to perform autopsies, despite the fact that the evidence indicated that the children may have been killed in violation of the federal ban against partial-birth abortions. In a partial-birth abortion, a baby who is able to survive outside of the womb is partially delivered, and then killed.
In June 2025, Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to launch a full investigation into the deaths of these infants. Bondi stated that there was an ongoing investigation.
