Hundreds of pastors and their spouses from a wide range of denominations gathered in Williamsburg, VA from August 18-21 for the “Liberty Pastors” camp, an intensive training in Biblical worldview and in how the Church can address key moral issues of the day.
The abortion issue was featured prominently, not only through the presentation I was invited to give to all the pastors, but also through frequent reference by the other speakers to how particularly grave and harmful abortion continues to be.
In fact, one of the reasons the training camp was held in the Commonwealth of Virginia is that in the upcoming November 2025 elections, there are two proposed constitutional amendments that can either be advanced to the next stage or thwarted. One of them is a “reproductive freedom” amendment similar to those that were on the ballot in ten states last year, and the other involves LGBTQ “rights.”

Virgina voters this year will choose their House of Delegates, which is currently a slim 51-49 Democrat majority. If it flips Republican, these amendments can be stopped in their tracks, because before getting on the ballot, they have to be approved by legislative votes in two successive sessions of the legislature.
Half of the participants in the Liberty Pastors camp were from Virginia; the others came from around the country. Victoria Cobb, President of The Family Foundation of Virginia, informed the pastors about these amendments in detail and urged them to get involved in the fight.
Participants also heard from Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, who spoke on Wednesday morning, and gave strong evidence of her faith and reliance on God as she runs for Governor in this November’s election.
In my own presentation, I gave the pastors a Biblical perspective on how the Church must respond to abortion. God says to us, “I am with you,” and that is what we say to the world, including those who are tempted to abort – by providing them concrete alternatives – and those who are hurting from a past abortion – providing them healing and forgiveness.
I spoke of defending the dominion of God, who is the only one who owns human beings and decides when they will live or die, and of helping believers grow in the love of God, by saying, as Jesus did, “This is my body, given up for you,” rather than by twisting those words as the abortion industry does, saying “This is my body – and therefore you must die.”
Among the resources the pastors learned about is ProLife.Church, a one-stop resource for prolife prayers, preaching, counseling and suggested prolife activities for Churches.
Throughout the training camp, pastors heard in-depth presentations on the meaning of liberty in our American system of government. Pastor Paul Blair, Founder of Liberty Pastors, Former Congressman Bob McEwen, and Rick Green of Patriot Academy, were among the presenters. Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel gave the pastors an in-depth education about the wide range of things the law allows them to say and do regarding elections.
The pastors also learned a lot about economic freedom, threats from China, the medical dangers of transgender surgery, and the threat of trans-humanism. Experts including Kevin Freeman and Alex Newman addressed these matters at length.
One of the strengths of Liberty Pastors is that the training doesn’t end when the conference is over. Rather, on the final day, the pastors are given the opportunity to commit to follow-up with specific related ministries which will help them in the long term to educate, equip and activate their churches along the lines of what was addressed during the training camp.
Among those affiliates are Citizens Defending Freedom and The Salt and Light Council.
It is well worth inviting pastors to take part in this experience. In the coming months, Liberty Pastors will hold training camps from September 29-October 2, 2025 in Lake Mary, FL and from November 3-6, 2025 in Bay Harbor, Michigan.
Let’s continue to pray and work that our pastors will lead the way in defending life!
