California Gov. Gavin Newsom has never missed an opportunity to troll, but his press office has now elevated it into a full-time performance art — mimicking President Donald Trump’s own posting style in an attempt to mock the man they fear most.
Over the past week, Newsom’s official X account has blasted out a series of all-caps rants, loaded with insults, nicknames, and “many people are saying” asides — all in a parody of Trump’s unmistakable cadence.
The target? Trump’s recent high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, followed by Trump’s push to back Republican-led redistricting efforts in Texas.
The Newsom account derided Trump as “TINY HANDS” and “TOTAL BETA,” mocked him for supposedly being “low energy,” and even floated the bizarre claim that Trump was considering “giving away” California to Russia. The post finished with a flourish: “MARK MY WORDS — THERE WILL BE BIG, BEAUTIFUL CONSEQUENCES FOR HIM!!!”

The trolling went further. In another long-winded parody, Newsom’s office declared that he, not Trump, should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize — not for diplomacy, not for global achievements, but for drawing what he dubbed the “most incredible maps in the history of mapping.”
Yes, maps. Specifically, gerrymandered redistricting maps that California Democrats are proudly designing to counter Texas Republicans’ efforts to secure additional GOP seats.
“PEACE THROUGH MAPS — NO ONE HAS EVER THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE,” the governor’s team wrote in a self-congratulatory burst. “THE WORLD WILL BE SAFER, KINDER, AND FRANKLY MORE ‘BEAUTIFUL’ BECAUSE OF MY MAPS. GIVE GAVIN THE NOBEL, MANY ARE SAYING.”
The effort is transparently political. Newsom is trying to paint himself as Trump’s foil, a scrappy liberal fighter using humor and mockery as a weapon. But in doing so, his office is essentially confirming Trump’s dominance in the national conversation. By parodying Trump’s tone, Newsom admits he can’t escape it.
