A Virginia school teacher was arrested last week on accusations she had sex with a student, according to records.
Katelin Campbell was arrested last Thursday and booked at the Halifax County Adult Detention Center. The 34-year-old was charged with having consensual sex with a child 15 years or older, as well as taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial relationship, county records show.
Campbell was a school teacher at C.H. Friend School, according to WSET and KFYI.
The teacher was released on a $2,500 bond on the day of her arrest, according to the county jail records.
Campbell was an English teacher at the Christian school, which taught students between the 7th and 12th grades, according to WSET. The outlet reported that school officials say Campbell was “immediately” terminated after the allegations against her came to light last month.
“We chose integrity instead of it being swept under the rug,” the school’s headmistress Dana Jones told WSET this week, confirming that the victim was a male student.
“Scripture is very clear that if it was done in the dark, it was going to be brought to light,” Jones added. “We understand that taking it to the police department, it was going to come shine a light on us. We took what we were told to them and let them carry on with their investigation.”
Officials say the alleged incident happened on Nov. 1, 2024, according to county records.
