U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel announced that Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey will assume a new role as Co-Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Bailey will share the position with former Secret Service agent and commentator Dan Bongino.
The announcement places Bailey, a state attorney general with a record of high-profile cases, into one of the top leadership positions of the nation’s foremost federal investigative agency.
Bondi said Bailey’s military service, legal background, and record of public service positioned him as a valuable addition to the bureau.
“I am thrilled to welcome Andrew Bailey as Co-Deputy Director of the FBI,” Bondi told Fox News.
“He has served as a distinguished state attorney general and is a decorated war veteran, bringing expertise and dedication to service.”
She continued, “His leadership and commitment to country will be a tremendous asset as we work together to advance President Trump’s mission.”
Kash Patel, who became FBI Director under the Trump administration, said the bureau will continue recruiting top-level talent to meet its objectives.
“The FBI, as the leading investigative body of the federal government under the Department of Justice, will always bring the greatest talent this country has to offer in order to accomplish the goals set forth when an overwhelming majority of American people elected President Donald J. Trump again,” Patel said.
Patel said Bailey will play a central role in the bureau’s current and future direction.
He described Bailey as “an integral part of this important mission” and added that he looked forward to “the continued fight to save America together.”
Bailey became Missouri’s attorney general in January 2023 after Eric Schmitt left the position to serve in the U.S. Senate.
Bailey quickly made headlines in that role by pursuing litigation against the Biden Administration, often aligning with positions taken by other Republican attorneys general across the country.
One of his most prominent legal victories came when he secured an injunction against the administration’s rewrite of Title IX regulations.
The ruling temporarily halted changes that critics said would have reshaped protections under federal education law.
Bailey also pursued legal action against the Chinese Communist Party, accusing it of failing to notify the world about the COVID-19 outbreak.
Trending Politics highlighted that his office won a multi-billion-dollar settlement in that case, which brought national attention to Missouri’s legal challenge.
In addition, Bailey sued the Biden Administration to obtain records tied to its legal actions against President Trump.
On the state level, Bailey launched an investigation into gender reassignment surgeries performed on minors.
Public safety was another focus of Bailey’s office. He created an anti-human trafficking task force that addressed more than 1,100 reported incidents in Missouri.
The effort was part of a broader initiative to combat organized criminal activity and protect vulnerable populations.
Bailey also prioritized addressing Missouri’s backlog of Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence (SAFE) kits.
His office worked to clear the backlog in order to strengthen the prosecution of sexual assault cases across the state.
In St. Louis, Bailey targeted rising violent crime and the performance of local prosecutors. The city has consistently recorded one of the highest homicide rates in the nation.
Bailey filed multiple legal challenges against Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner, citing her handling of cases. The pressure ultimately contributed to Gardner’s resignation.
Bailey said he was honored to accept the new role at the FBI. “I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Co-Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Bailey told Fox News.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to President Trump, U.S. Attorney General Bondi and Director Patel for the privilege to join in their stated mission to Make America Safe Again.”
A senior administration official, speaking to Fox, said President Trump expects Bailey to help reshape the Department of Justice and the FBI.
The official said the president wants to “see bad guys prosecuted, illegals deported, and corrupt politicians held accountable.”
The official added that Bailey’s experience at the state level will strengthen the DOJ’s efforts to meet these goals.
“We need all hands on deck to accomplish all of these important goals,” the official said.
“Andrew Bailey will serve as another set of credible, experienced hands to help Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Patel carry out the President’s mission.”
