Attorney Alan Dershowitz announced Monday that his son, Elon Dershowitz, died at the age of 64.
Elon Dershowitz passed away Sunday after suffering a stroke, according to Newsmax.
His death was confirmed by family members through media reports.
Elon Dershowitz had a career in the entertainment industry as a producer.
He played a role in bringing the 1990 film “Reversal of Fortune” to the screen, a movie that starred Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons.
The film told the story of the legal defense of socialite Claus von Bülow and won Jeremy Irons the Academy Award for Best Actor.
In addition to his work in feature films, Elon collaborated with his father in media production.
He produced Alan Dershowitz’s podcast, “The Dershow,” which featured commentary and analysis on legal and political issues.
Elon also produced sports documentaries for ESPN, expanding his professional portfolio into athletics and sports storytelling.
His work reflected involvement in both mainstream entertainment and news-oriented media.
Alan Dershowitz, a professor emeritus at Harvard Law School, confirmed his son’s passing by sharing a Newsmax article on X Monday.
The post was the first public acknowledgment of Elon’s death from the family.
Elon’s introduction to performance came at a young age.
He performed magic shows before audiences that included political leaders and athletes.
Among those who watched his shows were Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and members of the Boston Celtics basketball team.
Newsmax reported that Elon was preceded in death by his mother, Sue and his aunt, Marilyn.
His family connections remain prominent, with surviving relatives including his father Alan Dershowitz, his stepmother, a brother, a sister, two cousins and an uncle.
Following his passing, Elon Dershowitz donated his organs, according to family members.
His funeral service is scheduled to take place Tuesday in New York City.
Alan Dershowitz’s legal career has spanned more than five decades.
He became one of the youngest professors in Harvard Law School’s history when he joined the faculty at age 28, according to Daily Caller reporting.
Over time, he earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading constitutional and criminal defense attorneys.
Dershowitz has represented numerous high-profile figures. In 1995, he served as part of O.J. Simpson’s defense team during the former NFL player’s widely publicized murder trial.
Earlier in his career, Dershowitz argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and participated in appeals involving civil liberties and constitutional rights.
His reputation as a defense attorney extended to prominent individuals, including high-profile businessmen, political figures and public officials.
Dershowitz later represented financier Jeffrey Epstein in legal proceedings.
Epstein faced charges related to sex trafficking and died in jail in 2019.
Dershowitz’s role as Epstein’s attorney drew national scrutiny, though Dershowitz has repeatedly defended his work as consistent with his career-long commitment to representing clients regardless of public opinion.
Alan Dershowitz joined the legal defense team for President Donald Trump during Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020.
Dershowitz presented arguments before the U.S. Senate, contending that the charges did not meet the constitutional standard for removal from office.
The Senate ultimately acquitted Trump.
Throughout his career, Dershowitz has authored more than 50 books.
His works address constitutional law, criminal defense strategies, civil liberties, Middle East policy and U.S. politics.
Many of his publications have been bestsellers and have influenced debate in both legal and political circles.
Dershowitz has also contributed opinion pieces to various outlets, including the Daily Caller News Foundation.
His writings cover a broad range of topics, and he continues to publish regularly.
