California Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) social media antics continue as unsolicited advice from Fox News host Dana Perino found his “cosplaying” account insisting she missed something.
While considerable focus was turned toward the White House on Monday as European leaders met with President Donald Trump, a fatal crash in Florida also garnered attention. Amid discussion of the illegal alien — now facing three counts of vehicular homicide — who obtained his commercial driver’s license in the once-Golden State, Perino’s suggestion that Newsom put the “Twitter thing” to rest prompted further activity akin to engagement farming.
“ALMOST A WEEK IN AND THEY STILL DON’T GET IT,” read the post from the GovPressOffice account on X as caption to a snippet of Monday’s installment of “The Five” where the co-host advised Newsom to be “a little bit more serious.”
“For the last week, Gavin Newsom — and why am I giving him advice — you have to stop it with the Twitter thing,” said Perino. “I don’t know where his wife is. If I were his wife, I would say, ‘You are making a fool of yourself. Stop it!’ Do not let your staff tweet. And if you’re doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over. … He’s got a big job as governor of California. But, if he wants an even bigger job, he has to be a little bit more serious.”

The account also took a swing at Fox News’ Trace Gallagher, who called out the X activity during his “Common Sense Department” segment of “Fox News @ Night,” earning a screenshot from “The Simpsons” in return that featured a newspaper clipping with the headline, “OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD.”

Notably, as the director of communications for Newsom’s office explained, the “social media presence is produced by a group of staffers,” and that team had opted against highlighting what “The Five” co-host Greg Gutfeld said after Perino’s advice.
With eyes on the big picture regarding sanctuary state policies, viewed by many as intrinsically responsible for the three deaths in the Florida crash, Gutfeld directed his remarks at the governor as he said, “You knew that this was happening. Instead, what you were doing, you were cosplaying on X, pretending to be Trump. He does more work avoiding work.”
The comedic host of “Gutfeld!” was hardly alone in shaming Newsom for the contrived attempt at boosting his image ahead of a potential White House bid in 2028. In fact, while Perino argued that the governor put the X trolling to rest, others made the case for the governor to carry on and even double down, as it provided ample opportunities to shine a light on the impact leftist policies were having on California and, subsequently, the nation.
