Hold onto your hats, folks — former Attorney General William Barr just dropped a bombshell that’s sure to ruffle some progressive feathers.
In a closed-door deposition on Monday before the House Oversight Committee, Barr made it crystal clear that he found no evidence of President Donald Trump meddling in or committing any wrongdoing related to Jeffrey Epstein’s controversial case, as the Daily Caller reports.
Barr, who served as AG during the Epstein saga, testified that Trump never once offered input or tried to steer the direction of the criminal case or the investigation into Epstein’s death.
Barr’s testimony shuts down conspiracy theories
Let’s rewind to August 2019, when Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan — a death that sparked endless speculation and wild theories.
Barr, as the top law enforcement official at the time, took personal charge of the investigation, sending senior aides to the jail within hours and poring over roughly 11 hours of surveillance footage himself.
Initially, even Barr had doubts about how such a high-profile inmate could die in one of America’s most secure facilities, but the footage showed no unauthorized access to Epstein’s area, leading him to align with the medical examiner’s finding of suicide.
Epstein’s death: An institutional failure
Barr didn’t sugarcoat the mess, describing the incident as “a perfect storm of screw-ups” on the part of the system — hardly a glowing review of federal oversight.
That phrase alone should make bureaucrats squirm, as it points to a glaring failure of responsibility rather than some shadowy conspiracy the left often loves to peddle.
While progressive voices might still hunt for a villain, Barr’s conclusion stands: institutional incompetence, not foul play, paved the way for Epstein’s tragic end.
Barr’s confidence in transparency emerges
Adding another layer to his testimony, Barr noted that if there were any damning evidence tying Trump to misconduct in this case, the current Biden-led Department of Justice would have eagerly splashed it across headlines by now.
That’s a polite jab at the politicization of justice we’ve seen too often lately, where narrative often trumps facts in certain circles.
Barr’s full cooperation during the deposition, answering questions from both Republican and Democrat members, further undercuts any claim of a cover-up or partisan gamesmanship.
Broader probe targets high-profile figures
Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee, under chair James Comer, isn’t stopping with Barr — the panel has subpoenaed a slew of former attorneys general, including Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales, to dig deeper into the Epstein matter.
The committee’s net also included former FBI directors James Comey and Robert S. Mueller III, as well as Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, though Mueller’s subpoena will be withdrawn due to health concerns, according to a spokesperson who cited health issues that “preclude him from being able to testify.”
As the Justice Department cooperates by preparing to hand over Epstein-related files, it’s clear this investigation aims to leave no stone unturned, even if some on the left might call it a political witch hunt — turns out, accountability doesn’t discriminate.
