President Donald Trump fired back at critics over his approach to ending the war in Ukraine, insisting his focus is stopping the conflict and preventing further civilian casualties—not scoring political points.
After recently meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and ahead of his Monday meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Trump defended his strategy, dismissing what he called relentless and unfair attacks from opponents.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump emphasized his record and blasted the media.
“I’ve settled 6 Wars in 6 months, one of them a possible Nuclear disaster, and yet I have to read & listen to the Wall Street Journal, and many others who truly don’t have a clue, tell me everything that I am doing wrong on the Russia/Ukraine MESS, that is Sleepy Joe Biden’s war, not mine,” he wrote.
“I’m only here to stop it, not to prosecute it further. It would have NEVER happened if I was President.”
He also took aim at media figures and political opponents.
“They are ‘STUPID’ people, with no common sense, intelligence, or understanding, and they only make the current R/U disaster more difficult to FIX,” Trump said.
Underscoring confidence in his efforts, he added, “Despite all of my lightweight and very jealous critics, I’ll get it done — I always do!!!”
The president’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny following his summit with Putin, which failed to secure a cease-fire but was described as making progress toward ending the conflict.
At the same time, a fiery exchange unfolded between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CBS’s “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan.
Brennan suggested that European leaders were arriving in Washington to prevent Zelensky from being pressured into concessions following Trump’s meeting with Putin, as previously highlighted by Resist the Mainstream.
Rubio forcefully pushed back, insisting the leaders were working in coordination with the U.S., not acting as a buffer for Ukraine.
Trump, however, continued to highlight what he sees as partisan-driven criticism of his efforts.
In another post, he argued that even a total Russian surrender would be spun negatively by his opponents.
“I am totally convinced that if Russia raised their hands and said, ‘We give up, we concede, we surrender…’ the Fake News Media and their Democrat Partners would say that this was a bad and humiliating day for Donald J. Trump,” he wrote.
While critics argue his negotiations risk granting Russia too much leverage, Trump and his allies frame his direct talks as the fastest path to peace, a way to prevent further bloodshed and reduce the humanitarian toll of the war.
Supporters point out that previous administrations spent years funneling billions of dollars into Ukraine without delivering a lasting resolution, while Trump is attempting to bring both sides to the table.
They argue his approach reflects his signature “deal-making” style, prioritizing results over endless bureaucracy, according to TownHall.
Backers also note that European leaders, despite some unease, continue to engage with Trump’s strategy, recognizing that no end to the war can be reached without U.S. involvement at the highest level.
To them, Trump’s willingness to negotiate directly with adversaries signals strength, not weakness—a contrast they say was missing during Biden’s tenure.
As he meets with Zelensky, Trump has made clear that he sees political opposition and media backlash as distractions from his goal.
His message remains consistent: ending the war quickly and decisively is more important than appeasing critics in Washington or abroad.
