You know what California calls it when they hand out driver’s licenses to people here illegally? Compassion. I call it something else. They promise us these policies make everyone safer. They swear it’s about fairness and keeping families together.
But here’s a question nobody in Sacramento wants to answer: What happens when their feel-good policies meet reality at 70 miles per hour? Last week, three American families found out the hard way. And trust me, the answer isn’t pretty.
On August 12, Harjinder Singh made an illegal U-turn with his semi-truck. Right lane to left, straight through an “official use only” spot on the Florida Turnpike. A minivan with three people inside couldn’t stop in time. Dead at the scene: a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach and a 54-year-old man from Miami. The 30-year-old driver? He fought for his life at the hospital but didn’t make it. Three Americans gone. Someone’s parent, spouse, child – just gone.
And here’s the kicker: Singh shouldn’t have been driving that truck. Heck, he shouldn’t have been in the country at all.
From The Post Millennial:
The illegal immigrant truck driver who has been charged with vehicular homicide in the deaths of three people in Florida has been revealed to have crossed the US border illegally into California in September 2018 and was given a commercial driving license by California under the state’s sanctuary laws.
How Sanctuary Laws Enable Tragedy
Let me get this straight. Singh crossed our border illegally in September 2018. Border Patrol caught him. He claimed he was scared to go back to India. They processed him for removal. Then – get this – they let him go. Five thousand dollar bond. That’s it.
But wait, it gets worse. California’s Assembly Bill 60 (thank you, Democrats) lets illegal immigrants get driver’s licenses. No questions asked. Well, maybe a few questions, but not the important one: “Are you here legally?” Once they have that license, they can get a Commercial Learner’s Permit. And just like that, someone who shouldn’t even be here is driving an 80,000-pound death machine.
The Department of Homeland Security later called Singh a “significant threat to public safety.” You think? But by then, California had already given him the keys. Literally.
A Pattern of Failed Policies
Think this is just California being California? Nope. Washington State started this nonsense back in 1993 with House Bill 1444. They removed the Social Security requirement for licenses. They accept “alternative documents.” (Whatever that means.) Both states found ways to dodge federal rules that are supposed to keep our highways safe.
The federal government says you need to prove legal status to get a Commercial Driver’s License. Makes sense, right? But these states found a loophole. They hand out learner’s permits and temporary licenses like Halloween candy. Safety? That’s someone else’s problem. Until it isn’t.
Singh now faces three counts of vehicular homicide. Mandatory minimum of nine years in prison. After that? Finally, deportation. You know, what should have happened in 2018. Before three Americans died.
Those three victims won’t be coming home. Their families are planning funerals instead of family dinners. All because politicians in Sacramento and Olympia care more about looking compassionate than keeping Americans safe. They sleep soundly in their gated communities while we dodge illegal drivers on the highway.
Here’s my question for you: How many more Americans have to die before we say enough? These sanctuary policies don’t protect anyone – they just give criminals a license to kill. And until voters wake up and throw these politicians out, it’s only going to get worse.
Remember those three names next time someone tells you sanctuary policies are harmless. They weren’t statistics. They were Americans. And they deserved better.
Key Takeaways
• California’s sanctuary laws enabled an illegal immigrant to obtain a commercial license despite being deemed a “significant threat to public safety”
• Three innocent Americans died when the driver made an illegal U-turn with his semi-truck on the Florida Turnpike
• Washington State has similar laws allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain commercial driving permits
• The driver was released on just $5,000 bond in 2019 after illegally crossing the border in 2018
