Disturbing video footage has captured the deadly moment when a semi-truck driver illegally attempted a U-turn on a Florida highway, resulting in a devastating collision that claimed three lives.
Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant who obtained his commercial driver’s license in California, now faces three counts of vehicular homicide following the tragic incident that occurred last Tuesday on a Florida highway.
The video evidence reveals Singh casually beginning an unauthorized U-turn across the busy roadway, completely disregarding oncoming traffic traveling at highway speeds.
As Singh’s massive commercial vehicle occupied the entire width of the highway during his illegal maneuver, an approaching minivan had no opportunity to avoid the collision.
The minivan struck the side of the semi-truck with tremendous force, as the driver was unable to brake in time to prevent the catastrophic impact.
Two passengers in the minivan died instantly upon impact, while the vehicle’s driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Despite emergency medical intervention, the minivan’s driver was later pronounced dead at the hospital, bringing the total fatalities to three.
Singh had attempted his dangerous U-turn in an area specifically designated as “official use only,” making his actions both unauthorized and illegal.
Records indicate that Singh entered the United States illegally in 2018 after crossing the border from Mexico.
Dave Kerner from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles addressed the severity of the incident and its lasting impact on the victims’ families.
“Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever,” Kerner stated.
“The actions taken by the Defendant while operating a commercial tractor-trailer are both shocking and criminal,” he continued, per Daily Mail reporting.
The footage shows Singh’s disturbing calm demeanor immediately following the devastating collision, as debris from the destroyed minivan scattered across the highway.
Singh peered through his driver’s side window moments after the impact, observing the complete destruction of the minivan before silently placing his truck in park and shutting off the engine.
Additional video captured Singh standing motionless near the crash site as emergency responders worked frantically to extract victims from the mangled vehicle trapped beneath his semi-truck.
The defendant remained just steps away from rescue crews with his arms at his sides, occasionally glancing toward the camera as it documented the extensive damage and ongoing rescue efforts.
WATCH:
Singh is currently detained on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold while facing serious criminal charges.
“Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations,” Kerner confirmed.
“He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors,” the official added.
If convicted on all charges, Singh faces significant prison time before likely deportation proceedings.
Each vehicular homicide charge carries a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
Legal experts anticipate that Singh will serve any imposed sentence in Florida’s state prison system before facing immediate removal from the United States.
