The Trump administration is now requiring some Federal grants to require that the state recipient not impede law enforcement over immigration enforcement over wanted criminals. Oregon is a sanctuary state which blocks local governments from cooperating with Federal Immigration agents. This includes Federal Victims of Crime grants. One estimate puts the total at $15 million.
It is a strange combination of factors where the State is willing to forfeit money to help crime victims in order to protect crime victimizers.
Even worse, as nationwide crackdowns on illegal migrants (with criminal records) begins, many of those criminals are fleeing to sanctuary states like Oregon for refuge.
State officials need to work together with Federal officials on a solution.
