Ten teenagers have now been charged in the shooting death of a South Carolina teen allegedly gunned down in June in an argument over a girl.
Sixteen-year-old Trey Wright’s June 24 murder was captured on video by one of the defendants. Devan Raper, 19, was the first to be arrested, charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He remains behind bars without bond, WBTW reported.
The victim’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher, was next arrested, charged with accessory before the fact for luring her boyfriend to the murder scene knowing that Raper had a gun and would likely shoot him, as CrimeOnline reported. She was initially denied bond but later granted bond and released to home confinement, according to WBTW. Her charges have been upgraded to murder.
Earlier this month, three more teenagers — Hunter Kendall, 18; Sydney Kearns, 17; and Corinne Belviso, 18 — were charged with Wright’s murder. Kearns and Belviso have been released on bond, while Kendall is being held without bond.
Additionally, four minors have been charge with Wright’s death but not identified, and a 10th teen is expected to surrender to police soon.
Police have not yet explained how the other eight teens — other than Raper and Kistenmacher — were involved. That they are all charged with murder was a decision made “in consultation with the solicitor’s office,” Florence County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Michael Nunn told WBTW.
“The hand of one being the hand of all is part of South Carolina law as well, so that’s the basis of the charge for each of those individuals,” he said.
Nunn said all the defendants “were complicit in bringing the armed codefendant, Raper, to the incident location knowing that there would be a confrontation.” And then, he said, there is the matter of the video one of the codefendants recorded.
“Well, it’s kind of hard to deny what we see with our, with our eyes, and what’s posted on social media, audio, video, those types of things,
Nunn said.
Florence County Sheriff TJ Joye said at the time that the murder was an “altercation” between Raper and Wright.
“It’s not like I’m just going to go to Johnsonville and shoot somebody. They had issues with each other and it was over a female,” Joye said. “The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?”
