PHOENIX, AZ – A harrowing incident unfolded in Phoenix when a woman was struck by a car that then sped away, leaving her with severe injuries and a desire for justice. Patricia Tallapon, the victim, recounted the terrifying moment she was hit outside a laundromat near Fillmore Street and 35th Avenue in June.
Tallapon described the suddenness of the attack, saying she had no warning before the vehicle backed into her at high speed. “I literally thought I was going to die,” she recalled, her voice still filled with disbelief. The impact was so forceful that it left her screaming for help, while the male driver and his female passenger fled the scene.
The injuries were severe. Tallapon suffered a broken artery, a cracked leg, and fractures in her knees, requiring two surgeries. It took over a month for her to regain the ability to walk, a painful recovery both physically and emotionally.
Security footage of the incident has been difficult for Tallapon and her mother, Shirlene Yazi, to watch. Yazi expressed her shock and anger, firmly believing the act was intentional. “This was no accident,” she stated, her voice tinged with frustration and a need for answers.
Despite not knowing the driver, Tallapon is determined to understand why such an act was committed. “Why the hell are you doing this? What did I do?” she questioned, grappling with the senselessness of the attack.
Phoenix police have reviewed the security footage and believe they have identified the driver. Charges have been submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s office, bringing some hope for accountability.
Tallapon considers herself fortunate to be alive and is focused on preventing future incidents. “I’m just trying to stop these people from doing it again,” she said, emphasizing the need for justice.
Her mother echoed this sentiment, expressing urgency for the driver to be held accountable. “I want justice for my daughter,” Yazi declared, highlighting the potential risk if such actions continue unchecked. “What if next time they do this, that person’s not gonna be lucky?”
