The border between the United States and Mexico has long been a place of both promise and peril. For too many years, it has been a gateway not only for commerce and culture but also for crime, drugs, and corruption. But now, under President Trump’s firm leadership, there is real progress. For the first time in decades, we are seeing Mexico take serious steps to clean up its house—and it is no coincidence that this comes after strong pressure from the Trump administration.
In recent months, Mexico has extradited 55 major cartel leaders to the United States. These are not small-time criminals. These are men who led some of the most dangerous drug cartels in the world. Names like Rafael Caro Quintero and Servando “La Tuta” Gómez are well known to law enforcement. They are tied to violence, murder, and the deadly drug trade that has poisoned our communities and destroyed thousands of American families.
This is happening because President Trump decided enough was enough. He declared these cartels to be foreign terrorist organizations, which they are. He made it clear that if Mexico wanted to continue trade with the United States, it needed to stop letting criminals run wild within its borders. And it’s working. Even the Mexican government, which once looked the other way, is finally acting.
But it’s not just cartel leaders being held accountable. Now, thanks to Trump’s leadership and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s persistence, Mexican politicians with ties to cartels are under the microscope. Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila, for example, recently had her U.S. tourist visa revoked, along with her husband’s. There’s no official charge, but there is plenty of evidence pointing to shady dealings. Her husband and his brother are being investigated for smuggling stolen fuel from Texas. Her brother-in-law worked in Mexican customs, where millions of dollars reportedly flowed to El Chapo’s criminal empire.
And then there’s the photograph—Governor Ávila smiling arm-in-arm with a known cartel figure during her political campaign. Her office brushed it off as just another photo with a supporter. But we know better. These images tell a story of politicians who are too close to the wrong kind of power.
This is what corruption looks like. And this is what President Trump is fighting to expose.
Some in Mexico, including President Claudia Sheinbaum, are trying to paint Trump’s actions as interference. They talk about sovereignty, about not wanting American troops on their soil. But let’s be honest—Mexico hasn’t been able to stop the cartels on its own. These criminal groups have taken over entire regions. They bribe officials, threaten families, and even run operations from behind bars.
Journalists like Oscar El Blue Ramirez have been sounding the alarm for years. He says it plainly: none of this would be happening if Biden were still in office. Under Trump, the border is safer. Cartel tunnels have been sealed. Armed men are no longer marching through neighborhoods. There is cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico’s National Guard, and the results speak for themselves.
But we must not stop here. As Ramirez said, the only way to truly defeat the cartels is to go after the politicians who protect them. These corrupt leaders are the shield behind which the cartels hide. If we want real change, they must be exposed, prosecuted, and removed from power.
This is not just a Mexican problem—it is an American problem. Every fentanyl overdose, every gang shooting, every shattered family here at home can be traced back to these evil networks. That is why Trump’s actions matter. He is standing up for American lives, for law and order, and for the rule of law on both sides of the border.
Let us not be fooled by weak excuses or media spin. This is a fight between good and evil, between order and chaos. And thanks to bold leadership, we are finally turning the tide. The road ahead will be difficult, but with courage, faith, and steadfast resolve, we can restore safety and decency along our border—and hold accountable those who have betrayed their people for power and profit.
