The storm as of midday Sunday was 235 miles north-northwest of San Juan but is not expected to make a direct hit on the island. Winds are about 125 mph.
“The adverse weather has caused multiple interruptions across the island,” Luma Energy, a power company in Puerto Rico, said in a statement, according to NBC News. “Our teams continue to work to address each situation as quickly and safely as possible.”
Erin was downgraded to a Category 3 storm early Sunday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.
