The fallout from the Russia collusion hoax continues to ripple through the halls of American intelligence, and this time, it’s taken a direct aim at a high-profile defender of the now-discredited narrative. Former CIA officer Susan Miller, once seen as a credible face for the Intelligence Community, has reportedly had her security clearance revoked following a string of media appearances in which she vocally defended the agency’s 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA)—a report now under fresh scrutiny.
The catalyst? A declassified report released in July by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. In stark, unequivocal terms, the report attributes the origin of the Russia collusion narrative to President Barack Obama and his national security cabinet, particularly then-CIA Director John Brennan. Gabbard accused them of deliberately politicizing intelligence to create what she described as “a years-long coup against President Trump.” It’s a stunning claim from a sitting DNI, and one that has shattered what little remained of the bipartisan consensus on Russiagate.
Into this fray stepped Susan Miller, a retired CIA officer who emerged as a prominent media voice defending the ICA and its conclusions—most notably, that Russia interfered in the 2016 election with the specific goal of electing Donald Trump. In interviews with NBC News and others, Miller went so far as to claim she “headed up the report team” that compiled the now-controversial assessment.
But according to investigative reporting by The Federalist and corroborated by journalist Matt Taibbi and sources within the intelligence community, those claims are categorically false.
“She’s not the author of the ICA,” one senior official told Racket News. “She wasn’t leading this effort. It’s just totally bizarre that she claims the opposite.” Another source said bluntly: “Not an author. Not involved.”
The revelation that Miller may have misrepresented her role in crafting the 2017 ICA didn’t just undercut her public credibility—it appears to have cost her access to classified information. Two officials familiar with the situation confirmed to The Federalist that Miller’s security clearance has been revoked. Though no formal charges have been brought, the move sends a sharp message from within the national security establishment: the politicization of intelligence, especially in retrospect, carries consequences.
That message was underscored by a senior Defense official who told the outlet: “This woman totally shouldn’t hold a high-level security clearance after pushing the Russia Hoax. All she did was lie to the American people to hurt Trump.”
Another administration official was even more direct: “A woman involved in the Russia Hoax cannot be trusted with a security clearance. Therefore, it has been revoked.”
Miller has also been critical of former Trump CIA Director John Ratcliffe, whose decision to declassify Russiagate-related documents and refer matters to the Department of Justice was, in her view, a “100 percent political” maneuver. But now it is Miller, not Ratcliffe, who finds herself on the defensive—and without the clearance she once boasted about publicly.
