ATLANTA, GA – A family in the Atlanta metro area is seeking the public’s assistance following the tragic shooting death of their loved one, Abdul Hidara, in DeKalb County. Authorities suspect that individuals captured in surveillance footage may be linked to the incident.
The family, originally from Gambia, has been grappling with the loss for over two weeks. They are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice for Hidara, a devoted Muslim and respected community member.
Hidara was fatally shot around 4:30 a.m. in the vicinity of a shopping plaza on Buford Highway. According to his family, he had arranged to meet someone there to discuss purchasing a car. The meeting turned deadly when Hidara was shot in the back.
Police have released surveillance images showing three men and a black Escalade, which had a temporary tag, believed to be associated with the crime. Investigators are continuing their search for those responsible.
Family members describe Hidara as a committed father, son, brother, and husband. Their grief is compounded by the senseless nature of his death, and they are pleading for the community’s help to ensure safety on the streets.
In an effort to assist the investigation, Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The family hopes this incentive will encourage witnesses to come forward.
“This madness has to stop,” said a family spokesperson. “We want justice so our community can be safer.”
The family remains hopeful that with public assistance, those responsible will be brought to justice, allowing them some measure of peace.
