BRIDGEVIEW, IL – Disturbing revelations emerged today in the case of a brutal attack that has left a community in shock. A judge described the incident as a “horrific act of violence,” as details unfolded about a man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home, attacking her, and killing her teenage daughter.
Authorities allege that 35-year-old Juan Carlos Perez Abarca used a ladder to access his former girlfriend’s second-floor apartment in La Grange Highlands. The attack occurred on Monday while the woman was attempting to secure an emergency protection order against him, which was ultimately denied.
In the days leading up to this tragic event, Perez Abarca reportedly appeared uninvited at both the victim’s home and workplace following their breakup. Upon returning from court on Monday, the woman discovered her 16-year-old daughter unconscious on the floor, a plastic bag over her head.
Prosecutors allege that Perez Abarca was hiding in a closet and attacked his ex-girlfriend when she arrived. Sheriff deputies responding to the scene shot him in the leg after he failed to comply with their commands.
The teenage girl succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night, while her mother continues to recover from the attack. Perez Abarca remains in custody and is scheduled for a court hearing on September 5th.
The community is grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy as authorities continue their investigation. The case highlights the urgent need for addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety of those seeking protection.
