Newly resurfaced dashcam footage from a 2023 arrest shows a South Carolina Democrat gubernatorial hopeful in a state of utter chaos, wearing nothing but underwear and proclaiming himself a deity, as Breitbart reports.
Just a day after William “Mullins” McLeod announced his bid for the 2026 governor’s race, this shocking video surfaced, capturing the 53-year-old attorney in downtown Charleston, yelling at the top of his lungs, facing misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges, and prompting his own party to urge him to step aside.
Let’s rewind to May 2023, when McLeod, a father of four and former Charleston County Democratic Party chairman, was picked up by police in a rather undignified state — shoes and underwear, nothing more.
Unhinged behavior caught on camera
According to the police report, McLeod’s eyes were bloodshot and dilated, showing signs often associated with stimulant use, though no test results were disclosed in the arrest documentation.
Throughout the hour-long video, obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request, McLeod refused to give his name, instead declaring himself God and Superman, while shouting, “Superman sounds good.”
Well, Superman or not, turns out even self-proclaimed heroes can’t dodge the long arm of the law — or the embarrassment of such a public meltdown.
Threats, refusals escalate incident
McLeod didn’t stop at divine claims; he also referenced the 2026 gubernatorial race, threatening to “kick [the] teeth in” of an opponent, seemingly targeting Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson, who had already entered the race.
Adding to the spectacle, McLeod used offensive language, including racial slurs, at least twice during the footage, further tarnishing an already troubling display.
Upon reaching the jail, he refused to exit the patrol car, defiantly stating, “I’m not getting out,” and insisting it was “time to go to bed,” before officers forcibly removed and booked him.
Party calls for campaign exit
Fast forward to this week, when McLeod threw his hat into the ring for governor, only to have this damning footage emerge a mere day later, casting a dark shadow over his candidacy.
The South Carolina Democratic Party, through Chair Christale Spain, quickly responded with a statement urging McLeod to withdraw, saying he should focus on his “mental and emotional well-being” rather than a campaign.
Spain added, “We offer him compassion,” but let’s be real — compassion won’t erase the public’s memory of a candidate spiraling out of control in such a spectacular fashion.
McLeod defends himself amid backlash
McLeod, for his part, has pushed back, telling the Post and Courier he was exercising his “constitutional right” to be in a public place and hinting at an “unlawful arrest” story yet to unfold.
He pleaded for “a little bit of grace” from voters, promising they’d understand the full context before Election Day, but one has to wonder if grace can cover a performance this unhinged.
With no immediate comment from his campaign to other outlets like the New York Post, and a history of an unsuccessful 2010 gubernatorial run, McLeod’s path forward looks rockier than a Lowcountry backroad after a storm.
