A family of four was found dead on Thursday in what Alabama authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Kenneth Smith Jr., 44, shot his wife, Larrica Smith, 41, son, Khristian Smith, 15, and daughter, Kinsley Smith, 11, at a Daphne home. The trio was shot with a handgun that was recovered from the scene, according to WAFF.
Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery said the children’s phones were ringing as they entered the home.
“It looks like some type of domestic issue that escalated into this. It’s as tragic as it comes,” Lowery commented, according to AL.com.
Investigators said they will have to use forensic and circumstantial evidence to determine what led up to the shooting. WALA reported that the Smiths lived at the Daphne home for 20 years.
A neighbor said, “They just…she just told me they celebrated their wedding anniversary two weeks ago and was happy about it, so I just…I don’t understand. I don’t understand how this could happen.”
