Alberta Citizens : Right To Know Where They Are Going!

The intricacies of the legislation in Alberta concerning its independence is one thing and whether the Judge who just ruled a review can continue concerning it should be involved is another , but the Judge is right in opining that citizens need to know more about this .

A lot of ink has been spilled over how bad Alberta is treated in Canada but little as to what the nature of a Sovereign Alberta will look like . What will be the nature of the new nation’s Constitution. This will be crucial for Albertans since the whole idea is for Alberta to be better off as an independent nation not only financially and economically but democratically.   

Additionally , there will have to be extensive negotiations with Canada on separation, the Federal Assets in Alberta , the nature of a trade agreement with Canada and the US , the oil and gas pipelines that will cross into Canada from the nation Alberta and many more. 

The thorny question of the Aboriginal peoples, their status in a new country etc looms over such talks . 

Given the ambiguity in Alberta with things like a Provincial Police Force and a Pension Plan , both of which can be done now in Canada , one wonders about the Alberta citizen’s views on education, health and social services in a independent nation.

I suspect the details of the nature of an Independent Alberta  will begin to gain more attention and debate if this issue continues to gain traction.

It is one thing to know what you are leaving it is quite another to know where you are going.
