The Department of Veterans Affairs on Wednesday announced that it has processed more claims in fiscal year 2025 than in any other year and that the backlog of veterans waiting for benefits is down 37% so far.
The department said it has processed 2,524,115 ratings claims as of Aug. 8, which is two months before the end of the current fiscal year. Veterans Affairs processed a total of 2,517,519 ratings claims in all of fiscal year 2024.
Veterans have long criticized the department for having long wait times and its overall bureaucratic inefficiency, but the Trump administration has promised to improve the system.
“Under President Trump, the VA is making major improvements to better serve Veterans, and this announcement underscores that fact,” Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins said in a statement. “We look forward to implementing more reforms to increase customer service and convenience for those we are charged with serving.”
