Of all the elected Democrats who perpetuated the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative, perhaps none were more adamant and outspoken than Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), particularly when he served as the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee during his prior service as a California congressman during President Donald Trump’s first term.
On Wednesday, Trump blasted Schiff over a new report that Schiff previously approved a subversive plan to leak classified information that would be damaging to him, according to the Daily Mail.
Schiff has, of course, strongly denied the allegations recently made public by FBI Director Kash Patel, which originated with a former intelligence officer turned whistleblower who had worked as a Democratic staffer under Schiff on the House Intelligence Committee.
Trump calls out Schiff
In an early morning Truth Social post on Wednesday, President Trump wrote, “Just out, irrefutable proof that Adam Shifty Schiff ‘APPROVED PLAN TO LEAK CLASSIFIED INFORMATION TO DAMAGE DONALD TRUMP.'”
Later that day, per the Daily Mail, Trump slammed Sen. Schiff again while speaking at a Kennedy Center event, and said of his overt political enemy in Congress, while recounting a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, “I told him, you know, they got this phony investigation going on. Russia, Russia, Russia. Totally phony, created by Adam Schiff.”
“Shifty Schiff and Hillary Clinton and the whole group of them,” he continued in reference to a cabal of senior Obama administration officials, “made it very dangerous for our country.”
Trump then said he was “looking at” Attorney General Pam Bondi, “because I hope something’s going to be done about it,” and added more broadly of the recent revelations about the conspiratorial plot against him in his first term, “Now we’ve learned all the stuff that’s come out over the last two months is incredible, through intelligence. And hopefully something’s gonna happen with it.”
“Unethical,” “illegal,” and “treasonous” plan exposed by whistleblower
What President Trump was referencing about Sen. Schiff was a damning report from Just the News about a former career intelligence officer and Democratic House Intelligence Committee staffer who, beginning in 2017 and repeatedly over the years, warned the FBI as a whistleblower about then-Rep. Schiff’s alleged approval of a plan to leak classified information that would be damaging to Trump.
The unnamed whistleblower described Schiff’s alleged plan to leak classified information as being “unethical,” “illegal,” and even “treasonous,” but shared how Schiff and others had sought to reassure him that they’d never be caught, and that even if they were, the congressman would be immune from prosecution by way of the Constitution’s Speech and Debate Clause.
In one of the multiple FBI interviews, amid numerous redactions, the whistleblower recalled an all-staff meeting called by Schiff, who “stated the group would leak classified information which was derogatory to President of the United States DONALD J. TRUMP. SCHIFF stated the information would be used to indict President TRUMP.”
He further recounted how he informed everybody that “this would be illegal,” but that is when “unnamed members of the meeting reassured that they would not be caught leaking classified information,” as well as that Schiff was protected from any potential prosecution if the plot were to be discovered.
Schiff’s denial
In response to these new allegations, Schiff’s office said in a statement, “Kash Patel’s latest smear against Senator Schiff is absolutely and categorically false, and is just the latest in a series of defamatory attacks from the President and his allies meant to distract from their plummeting poll numbers and the Epstein files scandal.”
“These baseless smears are based on allegations that were found to be not reliable, not credible, and unsubstantiated from a disgruntled former staffer who was fired by the House Intelligence Committee for cause in early 2017, including for harassment and potentially compromising activity on official travel for the Committee,” Schiff’s rebuttal added.
That claim about the reason for the “disgruntled staffer” being fired is under dispute, however, as Just the News noted that, per the whistleblower, and backed up by contemporaneous statements from fellow committee staffers, he was fired by Schiff because he had displayed insufficient “party loyalty” when he objected to and refused to participate in the plan to leak classified information against President Trump
