Amid a flurry of left-wing protests at the recent decision by President Donald Trump to federalize the District of Columbia, new accusations have come to light that police in the district have been falsifying crime data since 2019, making it seem like violent crimes have decreased when that is not actually the case.Â
The Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday that police union bosses have repeatedly complained about being asked to classify violent crimes as misdemeanor simple assaults, which are not counted as such in statistics.
In addition, felony assault is not listed as a violent crime or counted by the FBI as a violent crime. Many assault with a deadly weapon incidents are being classified as felony assault or simple assault, ostensibly to avoid classifying them as violent crimes.
“Felony assault is not a category of crime that’s listed on the department’s daily crime stats,” Fraternal Order of Police Chairman Gregg Pemberton told NBC4 last month. “It’s also not something that’s a requirement of the FBI’s uniform crime reporting program. So, by changing criminal offenses from, for example, [assault dangerous weapon] bat or ADW gun to felony assault, that would avoid both the MPD and the FBI from reporting that as a part one or a felony offense.”
Stats are “cooked”
To get the true figures regarding violent crime in D.C., the DOJ may need to get access to the D.C. police department’s raw data and analyze it for themselves.
“Hopefully Pam Bondi’s people can get into the D.C. Metro Police Department and do some analysis,” National Police Association spokeswoman Betsy Smith told Newsmax on Tuesday. “Really take a look at the crime stats because it’s common knowledge in Washington, D.C., that these crime statistics are cooked. Right now, they have an internal investigation against one of the high-level commanders who was caught doing this.”
That commander’s name is Michael Pulliam, and he remains suspended pending the results of that investigation. Whistleblowers also accused higher-ups of telling them to classify crimes like a woman who was hospitalized after her face and neck were slashed and a man who held his boyfriend at knifepoint as simple assaults rather than assault with a deadly weapon.
The DOJ needs to “talk to the cops, talk to the detectives and find out what really happens instead of just this revolving door of quote, unquote, justice in D.C.,” Smith added.
False sense of security
According to the left and its sychophants, crime in D.C. is at a 30-year low, but those declarations may be based on false data if the accusations are correct.
Trump likely reacted to the assault of his DOGE staffer, Will Coristine, at the hands of a bunch of teenagers who were trying to carjack him and his girlfriend.
A congressional intern was also killed in D.C. a few weeks ago.
These incidents have caused great concern and shone a spotlight on crime in D.C. Trump pointed out that the number of homicides in Washington is double the number in Mexico City, a notoriously dangerous place.
The fact is, the left will pretty much oppose anything Trump wants to do; they are in their glory right now talking about the police presence newly blanketing D.C. as if they were stomping innocent civilians with their jackboots instead of just being on patrol, making sure there isn’t any trouble.
The fact that the left is decrying an attempt to make the city safer should tell us everything we need to know about what Democrats stand for in this country today.
