Since Donald Trump has taken office, he has set several traps for his political opponents. Dems fell for it the first time when they stuck up for an illegal immigrant tied to human trafficking and gangs.
Now they are doing it again with crime in DC, according to MSNBC host Chris Matthews.
Sticking up for criminals
Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) could not wait to grab headlines by traveling to El Salvador to talk to Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
After his visit, the Trump administration blew up headlines that he was not only likely a gang member, but he was also tied to cartel human trafficking.
Van Hollen was then forced to pivot to this being about the issue, not the man.
If you have noticed, Garcia is now barely mentioned by Democrats when discussing Trump’s immigration agenda.
DC pushback
When Trump ordered the federalization of DC, Democrats went after him again.
Dems claimed that Trump is an authoritarian and is trying to end the career of Mayor Bowser, a black woman.
This has already started to backfire on Democrats, however, as a Democrat governor has just called for a state of emergency over rising crime in her state.
Now, some media members are panicking that Democrats are falling into a trap set by Trump.
Don’t fall for it
Matthews, no friend to Trump, is worried that this is going to hurt Democrats, especially with the narrative that Trump is pushing.
He stated, “Trump looks at the city visually like a real estate agent. He wants to beautify the city like he’s doing at the White House with that ridiculous ballroom he’s putting in and getting rid of the Rose Garden. That’s Trump work.
“But I think it shows strength… I think this is a strength move against the big cities who are in a difficult situation on crime. And the murder rate, you can’t keep saying violent crime is down with the murder rates up. To the average person, the murders are about life and death. You don’t brag about a rising murder rate. And the Democrats are, I agree with you, Mika, they’re falling into the trap of defending what’s indefensible.”
The problem for Dems is that their hatred for Trump is so insane and out of control, they are now sticking up for everyone but law-abiding citizens. To Matthews’ point, they cannot see past their nose at this point, and their obsession is going to be their downfall.
