According to the Census Bureau, the population of Philadelphia was 1,573,916 as of July 1, 2024, while the Philadelphia Police Department reported that there had been 269 homicides in the city during all of 2024. According to my precise calculations[1]269 ÷ 15.73916 = 17.091128116112931058582541889148, that meant the City of Brotherly Love had a homicide rate of 17.09 per 100,000 population. Apparently, District Attorney Larry Krasner thinks that’s just hunky-dory, a perfectly acceptable figure.
In a skeet on Bluesky, the city’s George Soros-sponsored, criminal-loving and police-hating District Attorney, Larry Krasner, posted a bit from an interview with CNN, saying:
The 10th Amendment says he cannot take over the Philadelphia Police Department as he is doing in D.C. D.C. is different. It’s not a state. Pennsylvania is a state, and Philadelphia is its biggest city. Our police department is controlled by the mayor. And oh, trust me, this mayor does not work for Donald Trump, and neither do we.
So, we will stand on this constitutional right that has been there forever. We will stand on the reality that you cannot claim, It is an emergency, when Philadelphia, as of today, has the lowest number of homicides in over 50 years. We may set the record, the record, for lowest crime overall in Philadelphia for more than 50 years, and at the same time we have some of the lowest incarceration. That’s not an emergency.
Donald Trump is the emergency. Folks, listen, the emergency is Donald Trump. It is not anything else. And if you want your democracy, you better stand up now.
The “lowest number of homicides in over 50 years”? That isn’t true, in that 2013 and 2014 both saw fewer homicides, 247 and 249 respectively, than the 269 in 2024. The Philadelphia Police report does show fewer homicides to date, 139, but there’s no guarantee that the entire year’s number will be lower. And if there were no more killings at all in the City of Brotherly Love for the rest of the year, 139 murders would still yield a homicide rate of 8.83 per 100,000[2]139 ÷ 15.73916 = 8.8314751231959011789701610505262 population, higher than the national rate of 6.8 per 100,000.
That Mr Krasner absotively, posilutely hates President Trump was made obvious from his pretty much empty threat to seek state criminal charges against the pardoned Capitol kerfufflers, the vast majority of whom had already served their federal sentences before the pardons.
“(A)t the same time we have some of the lowest incarceration” rates, Mr Krasner proudly trumpeted, which raises the obvious point: perhaps if Mr Krasner had some higher incarceration rates, there’d have been fewer murders in Killadelphia than there have been. We reported, just a week ago, the first suspect arrested in the Gray’s Ferry mass shooting, which left nine people wounded and three men stone-cold graveyard dead, could and should have been behind bars on that date, save for the overly lenient plea bargain Mr Krasner and his minions arranged for him on previous firearms charges.
We have previously reported, several times, on how Police Corporal James O’Connor was murdered by a criminal could have incarcerated on a probation violation, but chose instead to let him go. At least a part of Philly’s murders can be tied directly to the District Attorney’s lenient treatment of criminals.
Will President Trump’s federalizing of the District of Columbia Police Department really help to cut crime? We don’t know, and frankly, I doubt it. Even if more bad guys are caught, they still have to be prosecuted and convicted, and in DC, then-Vice President Kamala Harris Emhoff received 90.28% of the votes cast, which demonstrates just how little they care for actual law and order. In Philly, more police and more arrests would just lead to Mr Krasner turning more caught criminals loose.
If the District Attorney was actually serious about reducing crime, he might have made a reasonable statement thanking Mr Trump for his concern about crime, but saying that he believes Philly is doing OK with crime reduction. Instead, he goes after the President with two guns blazing, showing his great compassion for criminals and his utter hatred for the President elected by a free and fair vote of the people of the United States.
