Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar hasn’t had a good year, optics-wise, and it seems that it just became much worse.
According to JustTheNews, a former Democratic associate of the “Squad” member pleaded guilty this week to participating “in a pandemic food fraud scheme, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota.”
Making matters even worse, the scheme involved exploiting a federally funded child nutrition program called Feeding our Future, which was one of the many pandemic-era programs that were rife with fraudulent activities.
The Feeding Our Future program was especially targeted at financial-related fraud schemes, as Omar’s former associate was the 52nd defendant to face the music regarding their fraudulent activities.
What’s going on?
The man, Guhaad Hashi Said, 49, pleaded guilty to several fraud charges, including “one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson released an official statement on Said’s guilty plea.
“The conviction of the 52nd defendant in the Feeding our Future case is yet another reminder of the vast reach of this fraud and the scale of the crisis we face in Minnesota,” said Thompson.
“These crimes are not isolated events. They are part of a web of schemes targeting programs that are intended to lift up Minnesotans and bleeding them dry. From where I sit, the scale of the fraud in Minnesota is staggering, and every rock we turn over reveals more.”
“We must be honest and clear-eyed about the scope of this problem, because ending it will take an unyielding, all-hands-on-deck effort from all of us.”
The outlet noted:
From December 2020 through January 2022, Said participated in a fraudulent scheme to obtain millions of dollars in Federal Child Nutrition Program funds that were intended as reimbursements for the cost of serving meals to underprivileged children, according to court documents.

“I’m sure Ilhan knew all about it and likely encouraged it. It will be hard to prove that she received any funds from it but you have to assume she did.” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “She had to have at least known of these schemes…. Even if not directly involved. But chances are high she was also involved. These people view America as a bunch of idiots ripe to be stolen from.”
