Democrats and Their One Weird Trick On Crime

Mark Twain’s quote — “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics” — doesn’t come close to Democrat shenanigans when it comes to crime statistics. Their modus operandi when confronted with inconvenient data: hide or redefine it.

Anyone turning on a “news” broadcast over the last couple of days would have seen the Democrat Media reporters all breathlessly reciting their scripted talking points about President Trump’s takeover of Washington D.C.’s law enforcement, even though crime is down 30%! ZOMG! It really is authoritarianism this time, right RIGHT?

Ahem.

The District of Columbia has quietly settled a lawsuit from a sergeant who accused Metropolitan Police Department leaders of misclassifying offenses to deflate the district’s crime statistics, court records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show. Police brass repeatedly told officers to downgrade theft cases, knife attacks, and violent assaults to lesser offenses, according to internal MPD emails, depositions, and phone call transcripts the Free Beacon reviewed.

Former MPD sergeant Charlotte Djossou sued the department in 2020, alleging that police leadership punished her for speaking out against the scheme. Djossou, who joined the force after serving honorably in Iraq, accused MPD brass of attempting to “distort crime statistics” by “downgrading a number of felonies to misdemeanors, so that there will be ‘fewer’ felonies in the statistics.” She also provided records showing that police leaders explicitly instructed their subordinates to underclassify certain instances of theft to keep them out of the crime stats the city reports to the public.

Well, shut my mouth. A law enforcement agency in a deep-blue run city is playing hide-the-ball with the public they are supposed to serve and protect? Say it ain’t so!

The President is right to crack down on crime in DC. I’ll never forget being in Union Station in February & seeing a body hit the floor; 18-year-old kid gunned down.

This is nothing new. Take, for instance, the FBI crime stats. That is the usual go-to for people debating criminal enforcement and/or reform for decades. Yet, of the approximately 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the country, 31% of them do not participate and report their local statistics to the FBI. California is notorious for state agencies not reporting crime data to the FBI.

And if you know anything about Running-for-President-Greasy-Gavin, is that whatever staffer is running his X account has been trolling red state governors about how they have higher murder rates, neener neener neener.

Nice trick to keep your murder rate low, don’t report murders!

We are past Baghdad Bob territory. We can see with our own lying eyes that crime in urban areas is out of control and spills out into the ‘burbs — fancy ones at that — too.

Community leaders from the Encino Neighborhood Council and the Encino Property Owners Association gathered at Van Nuys City Hall to present a list of written demands.

They are calling on the mayor, the city councilwoman, and the Los Angeles Police Department to address a rise in crime that they say has targeted the Encino neighborhood for years. (snip)

The call for action follows the murders of former “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, on July 14. The suspect was identified by authorities as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian. He is accused of murdering the two, both aged 70, during a home burglary.

But Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom would have you know that Los Angeles just a peachy-keen city of SAFE, and it is just evil Trump stirring the pot.

For years now, I’ve written here extensively about California’s Socialist Democrats and their love affair with criminals. From Governor Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown’s “Prison realignment” fiasco, to Props 47 and 57, the campaign to decriminalize crime (and don’t call perps “criminals”, they’re
‘justice-affected individuals’), cuz compassion, has only seen a rise in both property and violent crime. Why do portside politicians continue to wave their hands and tell us that we are hallucinating when we see coverage of the latest street takeover or mob break-in of a store?

Because if there are no arrests, there is no crime. Poof! Or how do you keep “violent crime” going down? Redefine what “violent” means. In California only 23 crimes qualify for label. Things like arson and domestic violence are not included in the definition.

So just like the D.C. brass who instructed the staff to underclassify incidents, the funny business of hiding crime isn’t isolated to just one law enforcement agency. How deep and wide the rot goes is anyone’s guess.

Don’t accept the gaslighting ever again.
