PINELLAS PARK, FL – A couple in Pinellas Park is recovering after a violent home invasion that occurred during a neighborhood power outage. The suspect, identified as a handyman who had previously worked on their home, allegedly attacked the couple in search of money.
The incident unfolded on 72nd Way when the suspect, posing as a mailman, gained entry to the residence. Once inside, he tied up one of the victims and demanded money. The situation escalated when both victims were stabbed during the altercation.
Neighbors reported that the area had experienced a power outage, which they believe the suspect used to his advantage, knowing security cameras would be inoperative. This left the neighborhood vulnerable, and the couple became his target.
Kinsey Bray, one of the victims, is visibly bruised and covered in stitches as she recovers from the traumatic event. Her fiancé, James Allen, recounted how he managed to fight back, disarming the suspect and using the weapon to defend themselves.
The power outage, lasting several hours, created a window of opportunity for the intruder. A nearby electrical issue caused the blackout, leaving homes without electricity from early afternoon until evening.
Despite their injuries, Bray and Allen expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal. They vowed to remain vigilant and ensure their home is secure moving forward.
The suspect is currently hospitalized under police watch. Upon release, he will be transferred to the Pinellas County Jail to face charges related to the home invasion.
The couple’s resilience and quick thinking during the attack likely prevented a more tragic outcome. The community remains on high alert, determined to prevent future incidents.
