PHILADELPHIA, PA – Authorities have arrested three men in connection with a daring armored truck heist that occurred in Port Richmond earlier this summer. The robbery, which took place outside a Home Depot on Castor Avenue, resulted in the theft of over $2 million from a Brinks armored vehicle.
The incident unfolded around 8 a.m. on June 21, when two men armed with rifles confronted the truck driver in an alley, forcing him to the ground and disarming him. While one suspect held the driver at gunpoint, the other seized the keys and made off with the cash.
In an interview, FBI Special Agent Wayne Jacobs and Police Commissioner Bethel highlighted the coordinated effort between the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department that led to the arrests. They analyzed video footage, examined cell phone records, and interviewed witnesses to track down the suspects.
The three men arrested include DeShawn Hughes, 30, Brian Wallace, 31, and Trevin Jackson, 31. They face charges of robbery, interfering with interstate commerce, and using a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime. Authorities hope these arrests will deter similar acts of violence and crime.
Officials emphasized the audacity of the crime, noting the danger it posed to the public. “This isn’t the Wild West,” said a spokesperson. “We want to pursue this case aggressively and ensure justice is served.”
Most of the stolen money has been recovered, along with luxury items such as cars and jewelry purchased with the stolen funds. Investigators are now probing whether the suspects were involved in other criminal activities.
The arrests come amid a separate armored truck robbery in Montgomery County. However, officials confirmed that the three men were already in custody prior to that incident.
