California Senator Adam Schiff is already facing a criminal investigation into allegations of mortgage fraud.
But that probe was just the tip of the iceberg.
And Adam Schiff’s trouble went from bad to worse over this secret from his past.
In April of 2023, then Congressman Adam Schiff posted on X that leaking classified intelligence threatened American national security and that the leakers should be held accountable with criminal charges.
“The leak of classified information is a threat to national security, strains our relationships, and limits the intelligence others are willing to share. A thorough investigation must be undertaken. And those responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Schiff wrote on X.
Those words are now coming back to haunt Schiff, thanks to the bombshell disclosure that a whistleblower, who is identified as a Democrat, a friend of Schiff’s, and a member of the House Intelligence Committee staff, went to the FBI with information that Schiff allegedly orchestrated the leak of classified information to hurt Donald Trump.
An FBI 302 form showed that the whistleblower described the leak of classified information as “unethical,” “illegal,” and “treasonous.”
In a 2023 meeting with the FBI, the whistleblower detailed his allegations that Schiff masterminded an illegal leak of classified information in the hopes of pushing the Justice Department to indict Donald Trump.
“When working in this capacity, [redacted staffer’s name] was called to an all-staff meeting by SCHIFF,” the report from the interview read. “In this meeting, SCHIFF stated the group would leak classified information which was derogatory to the President of the United States, DONALD J. TRUMP. SCHIFF stated the information would be used to indict President TRUMP.”
The report said that the whistleblower expressed his concerns and “stated this would be illegal and, upon hearing his concerns, unnamed members of the meeting reassured him that they would not be caught leaking classified information.”
Former US Attorney Brett Tolman told podcaster Benny Johnson that Adam Schiff could face decades in prison and potentially millions of dollars in fines if found guilty.
“The fine is up to $250,000 for every leak that’s charged. So it depends on the counts in the indictment,” Tolman began.
Even though these alleged leaks of classified intelligence took place in the first Trump administration, the statute of limitations wouldn’t expire if the leaks were part of a conspiracy against Trump that extended into the future.
“I believe this was, in essence, the beginning of a conspiracy to take down a president to impact his ability to lead,” Tolman added.
Tolman then laid out the serious punishment Schiff faced if convicted.
“If you found that the individual was doing it to undermine the United States, you’re looking at potential penalties of up to 20 years in federal prison,” Tolman concluded.
