Matthew 21:22
22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, as long as you have faith.
Jesus went to a fig tree hoping to find a fig to enjoy, but it didn’t have any. He expressed his frustration, and it faded away. The disciples were truly amazed. They had witnessed Jesus heal all sorts of illnesses and deformities, and even calm the wind and waves, but this was something else entirely. Some folks think that the fig tree represented Israel. When God came through the life of Jesus seeking spiritual fruit, He found none.
Jesus shared with His disciples that with faith, they could even tell a mountain to be thrown into the sea. John kindly explains the parameters of this power in one of his letters. He writes, “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14). Faith needs to be directed towards something meaningful. If it’s going to be truly powerful, it has to be rooted in God and His will for that particular situation.
Jesus might have been using a figure of speech, but the conversation was all about a real, tangible fig tree. I’ve never come across any mountains leaping into an ocean! That would create quite a splash! I’ve come across so many amazing stories about prayers of faith being answered, and I’ve had the joy of witnessing quite a few myself. Through prayer, we discover God’s will. From there, we can pray with confidence and see God work wonders.
Dear Lord, please guide me in understanding Your will and recognizing Your voice, so I can bring Your intentions to life through my prayers.
