The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday announced that it has finished its third consecutive month without catching and releasing a single illegal migrant at the border.
The achievement comes after Border Patrol encounters in July fell to 24,630, setting a record low for the second consecutive month after border encounters in June saw a record low with 25,243 encounters. Border Patrol also recorded just 4,601 arrests along the southern border last month.
“History made, again. The numbers don’t lie — this is the most secure the border has ever been,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told the Washington Times. “No more excuses. No more releases. We’ve put the cartels on defense and taken our border back.”
The latest achievement also comes after President Donald Trump vowed to end the “catch-and-release” border policy of the Biden administration during the 2024 presidential election.
