President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize law enforcement in Washington, D.C. and deploy the National Guard is still sending shockwaves through the political establishment — but the biggest bombshell didn’t come from Trump. It came from the people on the front lines.
On Monday, the D.C. Police Union issued a stunning public statement supporting Trump’s unprecedented move to take temporary control of the Metropolitan Police Department. Their message? The President is right — the city is in crisis.
“The Union agrees that crime is spiraling out of control, and immediate action is necessary to restore public safety,” the statement read. “The President’s recognition of this crisis validates our ongoing concerns.”
The Union didn’t hold back in blaming “radical policies” from the D.C. City Council for creating the problem in the first place. They pointed to chronic mismanagement, staffing shortages, and policies that have “crippled” the MPD, leading to a violent crime surge, historic officer shortages, and eroded morale among those sworn to protect the public.
Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton put it bluntly:
“We stand with the President in recognizing that Washington, D.C., cannot continue on this trajectory. Crime is out of control, and our officers are stretched beyond their limits. The federal intervention is a critical stopgap, but the MPD needs proper staffing and support to thrive. This can only happen by repealing the disastrous policies that have driven out our best officers and hindered recruitment.”
The Union also made it clear this level of federal involvement should be temporary — but they stressed that without Congress and the White House overturning D.C.’s destructive laws, the city won’t stand a chance at long-term recovery.
This frank admission obliterates the Democratic narrative that crime is under control in the nation’s capital. The very officers tasked with enforcing the law are confirming what residents already know: Washington, D.C. has become unsafe, understaffed, and unmanageable — and they’ve been begging for help.
The statement comes just as former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund publicly blasted Nancy Pelosi for her role in denying security measures before January 6th, adding yet another layer of criticism to Democrat leadership in the capital.
While Democrats rage over Trump’s intervention, the people who actually walk D.C.’s streets and face its dangers every day just made it crystal clear — this isn’t about politics. It’s about survival.
