This is a welcome surprise. As Deanna wrote here, President Trump has had enough and will be taking over law enforcement in Washington D.C. To the Democrats chagrin, the D.C. police union fully endorses this move.
Before I get to that, here’s the video of President Trump’s announcement along with facts and commentary from Attorney General Pam Bondi and Jeanine Pirro the U.S. Attorney for the District.
I love Pirro’s response to this reporter’s questions/comment.
🚨Adult crimes deserve ADULT PENALTIES!
Reporter: Last year I was robbed on the street [In DC] by a thug with a gun. He got away with it.
Judge: Here's the problem…if they're under 18 yrs of age I can only get the case if it's murder, rob 1, rape…THE LAW HAS TO BE CHANGED! pic.twitter.com/iDEIG6FNV1

That’s correct. People have to be raped or murdered in order for the U.S. Attorney to get involved. Furthermore, police can make all the arrests they want, but when judges let the criminals skate off scott-free due to the asinine no-cash bail crap, MORE crimes will be committed.
Mayor Bowser is having heart palpitations over all of this.
D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) on Monday called President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of the D.C. police department “unsettling and unprecedented” and said that the city’s police chief remains in charge of the District’s police force. Bowser said city officials would “continue to operate our government in a way that makes you proud.” Earlier, Trump announced the takeover as well as plans to deploy the D.C. National Guard to fight crime, saying the nation’s capital was suffering from “crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse.” D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb (D) called the takeover of the police department “unlawful” and said the city is exploring options to respond.
Muriel darling, let me tell you something. It’s only “unsettling and unprecedented” because YOU KNOW the city you run is in huge trouble because of the criminal element. You know all sorts of things are going to be uncovered that will make you look bad. You really don’t want anyone looking under the rug do you?
Well, too damned bad. The crime stats aren’t pretty.
Ahead of Trump’s announcement, Bowser told MSNBC on Sunday that “we do need the federal government’s help” and specifically requested assistance rebuilding the city jail.
Bowser recently invoked curfews in parts of the city in a bid to keep teens off the street as early as 7 p.m., but also has claimed crime rates are going down in the city, pointing to official data.
Trump claimed Monday that the numbers were “phony” and promised that Bondi will be “looking into that.”
The president noted that DC police commander Michael Pulliam, whose district included the densely populated Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights neighborhoods, was suspended last month for allegedly falsifying crime data to make trends appear more positive.
Again, Bowser doesn’t want anyone, let alone President Trump looking under the rug. She’d rather whine about needing a bigger jail (that will remain empty if the no-cash bail crap stays in place), than actively work to solve the crime problems and keep D.C. safe.
About those stats….
D.C. ranks the highest in the nation in carjackings. As in THREE TIMES higher than the national average.
1,600 violent crimes and over 16,000 crimes committed THIS YEAR alone.
D.C. has the fourth highest homicide rate in the country 27.3 per 100,000 people.
That’s just the TIP of the iceberg.
The D.C. Police Union wants law and order. They want a full crackdown of the criminals. Which includes BAIL, actual prosecution of the criminals, and jail time. They are in full support of President Trump’s actions.
The head of the DC Police Union praised President Trump’s temporary takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deployment of National Guard troops as a “critical stopgap” amid “out of control” crime in the nation’s capital on Monday.
“We stand with the President in recognizing that Washington, D.C., cannot continue on this trajectory,” union Chair Gregg Pemberton said in a statement. “Crime is out of control, and our officers are stretched beyond their limits.”
“The federal intervention is a critical stopgap, but the MPD needs proper staffing and support to thrive,” he added.
According to recent estimates, MPD’s force is about 500 officers short of its 4,000-officer allotment and is at its lowest staffing level in decades.
And their support for President Trump during the next 30 days speaks volumes. Which we all know just chaps the hides of all the Democrats. Who marched in lockstep with their talking points.

Nancy Pelosi got mad and had her bony butt handed to her by multiple people. Tim Walz tried to get in on the action and bombed big time.
The fact is, it is the police who see reality every single day. Washington D.C. law enforcement knows there’s a crime problem. It’s one of the reasons why the police force is undermanned and stretched thin. Arresting criminals only to see them back on the street within hours is and can be demoralizing.
The Washington D.C. police union has had enough of Democrats closing their eyes to reality and pretending that crime is just a figment of everyone’s imagination. The police union knows that crime and juveniles out of control is why an ineffective curfew is in place.
That is why the D.C. police union is fully endorsing President Trump’s 30-day takeover of D.C. law enforcement.
