To follow on from my post this morning.
I am not going to try to figure out what he is talking about in terms of the spitting issue. It sounds like a weird combination of maybe something that happened at some protest and the way the King’s Guard at Buckingham Palace is supposed to behave (i.e., stand there and not break, no matter what people say).
The notion that for years we have had a repeated spitting crisis is absurd.
And while I do not condone spitting on anyone, as with all things, responses need to be just and appropriate. Basically telling law enforcement to give in to their anger (remind you of anyone?) and do “whatever the hell they want” is not the responsible way for a president to speak.
If one of my kids spat in their brother’s face, there would have been consequences, but I wouldn’t have told the one son who got spat at to beat down his brother.
Of course, this is the man who pardoned the J6 rioters who attacked police. It is fine, you see, when the violence is done on Trump’s behalf. That is not a glib statement, but a chilling reminder of reality.
Anyone who is honest with themselves will note that Trump only cares about police when they are doing what he wants them to do (which is the way he treats everyone).
This is plain and simple authoritarianism.
Don’t think that some of members of law enforcement who do, in fact, want to give in to their anger and unleash violence aren’t aware of who holds the power to pardon.
