First Lady Melania Trump took a victory lap on Thursday with a post on X, celebrating after Democratic strategist James Carville walked back statements challenged by her attorney.
Carville began the latest episode of his “Politics War Room” podcast with a legal disclaimer, dropping his usual folksy, avuncular tone in favor of a more somber and measured delivery.
“In last week’s podcast episode, we spoke with Judd Legum,” he said. “After the episode, we received a letter from Melania Trump’s lawyer. He took issue with our title of one of those YouTube videos from that episode and a couple of comments I made about the first lady.
“We took a look at what they complained about, and we took down the video and edited out those comments from the episode. I also take back these statements and apologize,” Carville added.
Melania Trump posted a screenshot of the apology transcript alongside an image of the episode titled “The Epstein Connection: Trump & Melania,” with the title visibly crossed out.

Melania Trump’s legal disagreement was over the way Carville characterized how she met her future husband and president.
Nick Clemens, a spokesman for the first lady, told Fox News Digital in a statement: “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, ‘Melania.’”
Last week, The Daily Beast retracted an article featuring claims by journalist Michael Wolff that Melania Trump was introduced to Donald Trump through a modeling agent linked to Jeffrey Epstein, following a legal challenge from the first lady’s attorneys, Fox News reported.
The outlet posted an Editor’s Note in place of the article that stated: “After this story was published, The Beast received a letter from First Lady Melania Trump’s attorney challenging the headline and framing of the article. After reviewing the matter, the Beast has taken down the article and apologizes for any confusion or misunderstanding.”
In May, furious Melania Trump pushed back against a “completely false” rumor claiming her son, Barron, was rejected from Harvard University.
The viral speculation about the 19-year-old resurfaced Tuesday following President Donald Trump’s latest move against the Ivy League school—cutting off the federal government’s remaining contracts with Harvard, reportedly worth around $100 million.
In a statement, the first lady’s office firmly denied that Barron ever applied to Harvard, let alone was rejected, DailyMail.com reported.
“Barron did not apply to Harvard, and any assertion that he, or that anyone on his behalf, applied is completely false,” said the first lady’s communications director, Nicholas Clemens, in a statement.
The Ivy League school has a very high rejection rate of approximately 96 percent, DailyMail.com noted, adding that it is unclear where the rumor originated.
When President Trump launched his initial broadside against Harvard in April, cutting off a massive round of federal funding in response to the university’s continued defiance of a Supreme Court ruling against race-based admissions and his executive order banning DEI programs, speculation exploded online.
Rumors swirled that Trump’s actions were personally motivated by claims that his son, Barron, had been denied admission, though no evidence ever supported the claim.
Even a Democratic senator, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, speculated on X: “Can’t help but wonder how many Trumps got rejected by Harvard.”
But there’s never been any evidence that Barron – or any other member of the Trump family – ever applied to Harvard.
Barron Trump broke from the family tradition by choosing to attend NYU’s Stern School of Business, diverging from the educational paths of his siblings and father. President Trump and several of his children graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, while others attended Georgetown University.
