The Biden administration released a convicted child sex offender from immigration detention in 2021 upon the request of the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) records obtained by the Oversight Project.
The records show DHS released a woman who identifies as a man after she served more than eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.
The individual, a Philippine national known as “Tim,” was held by immigration authorities after completing the sentence for statutory rape. In an Aug. 7 X post, the Oversight Project said “Tim” had sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
In an email to DHS, SPLC lead attorney Mich Gonzalez — who uses the pronouns el/he/they — urged the early release of “Tim,” arguing that “transgender” inmates face psychological abuse in prison.
Gonzalez said “Tim” began an online relationship with the victim in 2009 at age 19, believing she was 16. The relationship continued online for two years before they arranged to meet in person. At this point, “Tim” learned the girl was only 14 years old but still chose to meet up with her. The Oversight Project said she was 12 when the abuse began.
Internal DHS emails reveal officials began discussing the SPLC request within four days and approved the release on a Sunday.
“They decide on a Sunday to release the pedophile to non-detention and let walk the streets,” the Oversight Project wrote on X. “This is unbelievable stuff that must be accounted for.”
