Authorities in Florida have arrested a Palm Coast woman accused of posing as a registered nurse and providing medical care to thousands of patients despite lacking the credentials required to practice.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) announced that 29-year-old Autumn Bardisa was taken into custody at her residence, where she was wearing medical scrubs at the time of the arrest.
The sheriff’s office detailed the case in an official statement posted to its Facebook page.
Bardisa represented herself as a licensed nurse and administered medical care to more than 4,400 patients between June 2024 and January 2025, according to investigators.
Officials confirmed she did not hold a valid nursing license during that time.
Records show Bardisa began working at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway in July 2023.
Her employment ended in January 2025 after internal concerns about her qualifications and professional background surfaced.
The arrest followed a seven-month investigation involving state and federal health agencies.
AdventHealth administrators reported Bardisa allegedly assumed the identity of a registered nurse by using another person’s license number.
She also allegedly submitted fabricated documents to secure her position as an advanced nurse technician at the facility.
When Bardisa first applied for the job, she reportedly listed herself as an “education first” registered nurse.
That title is given to candidates who have completed nursing school but have not yet passed the national licensing examination.
Investigators said Bardisa later told the hospital she had passed the licensing exam.
She then provided a license number belonging to another nurse with the same first name but a different last name.
To explain the difference in last names, Bardisa claimed she had recently married and changed her name.
Hospital officials requested a copy of her marriage certificate to verify the claim, but Bardisa allegedly failed to provide one.
Despite the absence of verified credentials, Bardisa was considered for a promotion in January 2025. During that process, a coworker decided to verify her licensing status and discovered she only held an expired certified nursing assistant (CNA) license.
The coworker reported the finding to hospital administrators, prompting an internal review of Bardisa’s employment records.
That review revealed Bardisa had never submitted documentation to confirm her true identity.
Following the internal investigation, AdventHealth terminated her contract and contacted the FCSO.
Law enforcement officials then launched a broader criminal investigation, enlisting the Florida Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The investigation included interviews with current hospital staff and the registered nurse whose license number Bardisa allegedly used.
Officials said both women attended the same nursing school but were not personally acquainted, according to Fox News reporting.
As a result of the inquiry, Bardisa was charged with seven felony counts of practicing medicine without a license and seven felony counts of identity fraud.
She is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $70,000 bond.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly issued a statement describing the case as one of the most troubling medical fraud incidents his office has handled.
“This woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk by pretending to be someone she was not and violating the trust of patients, their families, AdventHealth and an entire medical community,” Staly said.
“Thanks to great investigative work between our detectives and State Attorney, Florida’s 7th Circuit R.J. Larizza’s Office and AdventHealth, along with our state and federal partners, she’ll now be held accountable for her reckless and dangerous actions.”
